I would like to welcome myself back. I used to be a regular on these forums with the original DJI phantom. I just bought the phantom 3 standard a month ago. I am still taking it easy figuring out everything it can do but I had it out maybe 1200 feet or so with video transmitting good quality.
Couple days later I went out for a hike and it wouldn't fly, it said it needed a firmware update. This is my first aggravation. Why do things work fine and then when there is an app update all of a sudden it disables things. Nothing has physically changed to cause it be be non functioning? Waste of a hike but whatever
Aggravation number 2 : After the update video and control transmission seems to be all but ruined. Video becomes choppy at 200 feet and I lose the transmitter at maybe 500 feet and get a return to home. I am not experienced enough to yet say with certainty that this is what caused it as I only have a few hours on the p3, however I do have plenty of experience with phantoms so I am not some noob here. Something definitely took a turn for the worse after I updated.
I wish I kept track of the dates and serials of the updates but I didnt expect this. Now I am back on the forums. All the terms have changed. Looks like I need to start from scratch and relearn everything it has been a while.
I don't want to open up my Phantom and start soldering or do 200$ aftermarket parts. I really like the P3 so far, just give me reliable video distance up to 1,000 feet or more and I will be happy. Is that so hard to ask?
