Might as well have an introduction thread for the moderators.
So where's yours?
I have been an avid RC'er since I was a kid. Everything from control line aircraft, home built crawlers, nitro monster trucks, helicopters, etc. I like to build my own RC's including multi rotors. My wife and I own a small business here in New York where if it's not taxed yet, it soon will be! I am also an amateur photographer with a great interest in night photography. Flying camera platforms have really opened up the possibilities.
I enjoy helping out here on the forum and helping members when I can. This place is a great community of people with a wealth of information. The members here is what make this place so great!
i just had to , sorry
It is a pleasure to welcome you to the Phantom Pilots forum. I hope that you will take advantage of the benefits that come with membership and that you will be able to use the forum for the exchange of innovative ideas and as a resource for current developments in Phantom quadcopter’s.
Here it is... My name is Ian Wood. I am originally from New York but I now live in Los Angeles and have done so for the past 10 years. I lived in London for 12 years before that.
I am an avid technophile. My day job is working in mobility solutions (mobile apps, etc.) and I am now building solutions for the connected car industry. This is where I learned a lot about sensors like the compass, IMU and positioning systems like GPS and GLONAS.
I have been flying drones for a long long 2 years. I had seen a few before and was very interested but couldn't commit the time to learn and build one. I came across the Phantom 1 at Burning Man in 2013 and knew then and there I'd have to buy one eventually. I did a few months later.
Now I have a lot drones:
Three Phantom 2s.
Two Inspire 1 Pros.
Two custom build Gryphon Dynamics X8 heavy lifters.
I also now shoot with drones professionally. All because I made some videos that went viral much to my surprise:
Some fun stuff I did with one of my P2s:
Here's one of the big X8 heavy lifters on its maiden flight:
Hi..I'm da bird.
Not a mod but think I am
Hi guys ... I'm on the east coast of Australia, helping balance the geographic coverage.
I'm an environmental consultant and have always been involved in photography.
I have a lot of experience with compass from 4 years sailing a yacht around the SW Pacific and using GPS for field work.
When I saw my first Phantom it was love at first site and things took off from there.
I get my kicks trying to make memorable images, especially big picture panoramas of coastal scenery.
I get blown away every time my bird lifts off. The ability of these toys is fantastic.
How do you like the Inspire 1 Pro? I can't see the point of getting a 1 with the same camera as the P3P but the seems worth. Just missed a used B&H deal on it for 3699. Seems like it would be pretty hard to build something comparable at that price. I really want something with a better lens system after I'm done sitting this winter out.
Inspire with the X5 is a work in progress. It generally shoots very well in good light. In low light and nighttime, it still has issues. If they iron it out, it will be a pretty amazing set up. I knew there were issues getting into it but I am still pestering DJI to get it sorted out!
Well Taco ya been doing it for 2 years today here so just keep on keeping on .
That's not what I look like!
And yeah, who knew after signing up to this site two years ago, I'd make over 4,000 posts!
(But, you've still got me beat!)
I just talk a lot
I'm from Australia so hope all goes well with my new P3P
Is there a mod that can change my birthdate, and send me a conversation message like an instant message in real time?
Congrats sir If this isn't a new appointment I missed it and apologize but the sentiment is still the same
Just started this morning and thank you BigA
It's often a thankless job but it's also a good thing to be able to "give back" to the community.
I have always tried but will more so now .
