Incredible 5+ mile flight of the Phantom 3

WOW! THAT GUY CAN SEE 5 MILES LINE-OF-SIGHT!!!

Because we all know he maintained visual contact the entire way, right? ;>

None, no wind.

That's false. He did a double battery mod.

It is NOT BS, he is the tester for Itelite. I have this antenna on my P2V3 and it works great.

Nobody is doubting the antenna, it's his flight time that is in question. But he has confirmed that he's using a double battery mod that DBS plans to release to the public eventually.

On this flight? I call that BS. Maybe he will chime in here.

You think a guy can fly out 5.25 miles with 70% battery remaining when normal flyers can't get 3 miles WITH wind behind them, and still be above 70%?

He posted on the FB page that it was "battery mod done by DBS, also flying in optimal conditions with 1mph headwinds at 400'. Perfect for long distance flying".

He said there's a battery mod in his description in the YouTube post of the video:

"Yes there's some battery tweaking going on here... I'll be posting that soon as well..."

We would like to know more about that.

Thank you, I stand corrected.

DBS Mods made external pylons for battery attachment. This flight was made possible with external battery mod.

cant wait to get these ordered way back, great to see this

Well here ya go then... simple tandem battery mod used since back in the Phantom 1 days... NanoTech 1000mAh 4 X2 .... saddlebag style... wired in parallel ... soldered at main board power lugs... getting into the **** shell is probly the hardest part of this mod.

I might want to order this for my P3P once its available. I normally don't fly in great distances but having the extra TX power/range would comfort my worries greatly.

27,000 feet. All I can say is OMG

What's REALLY impressive is he didn't even go all that high to do it. THAT is impressive!

Could this be a national security issue? :D

27,000 feet? Not sure what mods were done, but this flight was NOT at 27,000 feet. 2,700 maybe, but not 27,000.

it said it was 27,000 feet (distance wise) which is slightly over 5 miles. this is very doable if the TX power is there.

@LarryL,

Might want to do some research before dismissing this so quickly...

I fly light planes and definitely not at 27,000 feel. But, the next time you get on an airliner and fly someplace at 27,000 feet, and up, keep track of the ground perspective. At 27,000 feet it doesn't look anything like what the camera shows from this flight. At least that's my experience. Maybe his landscape environment is way different than mine.
