GIVEAWAY: Phantom 4 (winner = lalvar40)

Would firstly like to say thank you for this opportunity to win this amazing drone and also for providing information on using it, it would be awesome to show how to edit the footage or even just the basic controls or tips/techniques to make the cinematography very eye catching and successful :) thanks again

I am supporting this forum 4 to 5 hrs a day and want to continue to do the same as I have a passion to solve issues. That was one of the reasons I wanted to win this competition. Unfortunately, I didn't do my home work good :(. There are many other technical forums where I am very active and I enjoy. I know many prerequisite are needed to support a forum in a good way: Good technical knowledge, Practical experience, Will do support, right equipment to verify....

I miss P4 :(

Winner, Winner Chicken dinner.....
WTG Lalvar40 and a big Congrats on the win and I hope you enjoy it to the fullest and post often so we can share in your enjoyment.

Msinger, class act on your part and kudos to you for your support.

First, I'd like to thank everyone for taking the time to share your ideas. There are many great posts here, but I'm unfortunately only able to select one winner (unless @cxbernal is still donating his bird).

While I know some of these ideas were mentioned throughout this thread, here are my favorite ideas/thoughts (in no special order):
 • #11: real life troubleshooting examples
 • #28: how to avoid common accidents
 • #31: members can ask questions on lessons and get an answer from the instructor
 • #39: examples of what not to do
 • #42: signs & symptoms when something requires maintenance
 • #45: recreate circumstances that could cause flyaways or other common accidents
 • #66: teach lessons in Google Hangout
 • #69: schedule trainings in webinars
 • #91: lots of misinformation on the Internet
 • (#102: nice editing in your YouTube videos!)
 • #139: build up brand through a YouTube video series
 • #141: different training packages
 • #185: what to do instead of panicking in potential disasters
 • #236: like how you combined the video and RC action
Note: Some of the above posts were quite lengthy and contained a lot of other good information. I just highlighted the main points and/or ideas that really stood out to me.

And, now for the winning post...

There are no doubt a lot of experts on this forum -- and, all with different experiences and skillsets. As described in post #72, I really like the idea of gathering those interested experts and allowing them to cover topics based on their experience. And, those topics could be grouped into different modules for those people interested in learning about those specific topics. It's something I've never considered and I think it could turn out to be a very valuable resource for all involved.

So, congrats to @lalvar40! You just won yourself a shiny (literally) new Phantom 4! Please PM me your mailing address so I can get your package in the mail.
Thank you for the opportunity to share ideas and for the nod. Congrats to the winner!

And the winner steps forward to claim his prize, much to the consternation of all the runners up...:D Congrats! They were trying have your prize forfeited for not speaking up sooner... Enjoy it!

Congrats lalvar40. Looks like we had some of the same ideas I was late posting mine, but I didn't go through and read any posts before (or after) making mine because I didn't want them to influence my ideas. In retrospect maybe I should have so I didn't duplicate ideas.

On a side note I think it might be tough to get people to put together professional grade training videos on their own for your training program. And it might be tough to really tease out who is an "expert" vs a wannabe expert. I still think the better plan, is for you to go out and hand select experts and invite them onto your show, via conference call or Skype etc. then they could give their opinion, or explain why something is the way it is.

For example I have a friend that did his PhD at MIT in machine learning and electrical engineering and his dissertation was focused on developing better hardware and software to make drones more reliable. He now is working here in the Bay Area for a super secrete tech company helping to design a flying car (that's seriously all he could tell me about what he does). Now that would be someone's explanation or opinion I would trust. And I am sure he would be more than happy to make an appearance on an episode to discuss different aspects of our birds. Would I be able to get him to produce his own video to use in the training program??? Probably not.

I also know the CFO of 3DR, now he probably isn't the best to get on an episode but I can guarantee you he can put me in touch with experts that would love to.

I do agree though that the forum is full of advice and very knowledgable people. I have received a lot of help and advice from many in this forum, and the forum members definitely have a place in the training videos to be developed.

Whoa slow down, you're not gonna have much time to post experiences about that bird let alone fly it, The entry you submitted to win that bird you stated several times that "you would", and offered a lot of hands-on kind of work putting the class together. So I can't wait till your course comes out ! [emoji41]it'll be a busy summer for you

U know i put the emoji when i'm bustin b***s rite![emoji41]

LOL
Put him to work BUM

there's going to be a lot of hurt feelings over this

Nah - I doubt if anyone's feelings were hurt over not being the "winner" - everyone who contributed is a winner IMO and will no doubt benefit from the experience of what might be forthcoming from it all. You had a great post there Frank, with lots of well deserved compliments on it (see, that alone makes you a "winner" also) and I am sure a lot of what you had in your post will be implemented as part of the training.

I'm pumped to see what will be coming via this contest - the contest was a great idea to get info out here and the real overall winner(s) will be all who learn from it.

What does this mean?

Think he meant "had their FILL" (not feel) for this contest since no one has mentioned doing another - LOL.....see what you started msinger....nice going - LOL.

Hah, yes, I'm starting to see. It sounds like some people are telling me to stop doing free giveaways ;)

Good fun with this contest Mike, I think your contest made everyone who commented think very hard and each entry was an expression of what matters most to the PhantomPilot who submitted it.

Good entry lavlar I am happy for you and hope you have great fun with your P4 (I know I have).

Did that other guy ever pay up on the Phantom 4 bet when he was so sure that apple wouldn't have it delivered any sooner than March 17th? I sure hope he did, I teach my kids all the time not to say you will do something that you know from the get go that you cannot complete. I know it wasn't really a bet because one person had nothing to lose but that person is not the one that opened his mouth with such conviction that he was willing to put a $1400 Phantom 4 at stake. I didn't want to hijack this thread but now that I see msinger is a person of his word, I just won't be able to take this forum serious until the other agreement is complete.

On a side note I think it might be tough to get people to put together professional grade training videos on their own for your training program. And it might be tough to really tease out who is an "expert" vs a wannabe expert. I

With all due respect..........I don't think this would be difficult at all to achieve, higher education does not necessarily equate to higher intelligence or equal any sort of "expertise" in any given field. There are plenty of people who have gone through the school of "hard knocks" (hands on life experiences) who can be considered "experts". Based on my own experience on this forum alone.......achieving professional grade training videos etc. could be done with ease, of that I have no doubt whatsoever.

I still think the better plan, is for you to go out and hand select experts

The word or title if you like "expert" is wide open for interpretation and vastly overused.........personally I don't believe there is any such person in any given field..........for certain there are those who specialize in a particular field of "expertise"..........who do become "specialists" in same. It is those who recognize the "specialists", surround themselves with them, identify their strengths and allows them the freedom to express same........they are the real experts of which there are many on this forum.

Please don't take this as any slight toward you or your friend, I mean zero disrespect toward your opinion or that of your friends education and/or employment position. I interpret your statement of "Now that would be someone's explanation or opinion I would trust"........IMO, this implies one needs higher education, title etc. in order to carry any weight or trust at all when it comes to input into anything that others may be interested in, require information on and/or training on. Higher education, title etc. does not necessarily equate to expertise in anything. As stated earlier there are many on this forum who can offer the same or even better "explanation or opinions" who don't have that same higher level of education, title etc.

I do agree though that the forum is full of advice and very knowledgable people. I have received a lot of help and advice from many in this forum, and the forum members definitely have a place in the training videos to be developed.

Now this, I do agree on and very pleased to see you mentioned it ----- I also have experienced the same kind of assistance and advice on various subjects and as such this pretty well sums up what I was saying earlier. That quote or yours above does however seem to contradict a little of what you state in your post.

As mentioned - my response to your post is my own opinion, and is left here with all due to respect.

Hah, yes, I'm starting to see. It sounds like some people are telling me to stop doing free giveaways ;)
Not true. Everyone wants a free drone. Share one with me if you have spare :)

I'm fresh out :)

I knew there was a good reason you never mentioned my entry. You must really think I'm stupid.

flNfrank..........don't go getting so defensive not anyone here thinks "your stupid"..........your entry was mentioned and it was a fantastic one - very likely the "runner-up" for the P4. Your vid with the controller overlay is very good and something that I would use for learning tips n tricks with.

As to another contest - you are right, msingers got a ton of responses and you wanted to keep that kind of interest going for something new. I think the fact there may be some good training forthcoming from that contest and the input is exactly the type of on-going interests that has been generated via same.

I get what you are saying and good on you for wanting to pursue that avenue of interest level for something else that could lead to another contest........it's only been a couple of days since your post mentioning that, so be patient and see what might come along as a result. Take care.

Thanks for the kind words and thoughts.

Btw, had I won the contest I would of course be in a completely different mindset with all this. And if I would have already taken delivery of the drone, I wouldn't be on here. By now I would have charge the battery and recorded all the specifics. Then without a doubt I would be analyzing flight data and sharing the details.
