P4 Compass

G'day
I am wondering what the compass in the P4 actually does?
I crashed my P4 and the legs broke so the compass no longer works, but the drone seems to fly fine. I would have said it is to tell which way around the drone is but the GPS seems to do that.
Also does anyone know where you can get legs that can be posted to or in Australia?
