Have 20+ flights in B-Mode;
Catch-22 = can't offer B-Mode fly-away strategy until
it
flies
away...
WHAAAAA???
As a new flyer, you fear your Phantom mysteriously flying away.
A little explanation might help answer your question better
Flyaway is a vague term that gets applied to a number of different things.
The term evolved in the early years of the P1 and P2 when there were (some) genuine issues.
But the term was also used as an excuse for losing your Phantom for any unknown reason.
When the P3 series came with better electronics and programming and a flight data recorder in the app we could finally see the actual flight data to investigate flyaways and often determine the cause.
And investigating many "flyaways" shows that genuine flyaways are very, very rare.
You still see forum posts saying my Phantom flew away but the most common cause is the operator not being familiar with the operation of the Phantom.
A few that frequently show up include:
Flying high downwind in strong winds that are too powerful for the Phantom to RTH against
Screwing up the compass with unnecessary recalibration leading to out of control flight.
Screwing up the compass with unnecessary recalibration leading to atti mode flight (and not understanding atti mode and how to fly with it.
Unfamiliarity with RTH and how it works
Flying behind obstacles like hills or tall buildings causing RTH out of sight
These are common user errors - they are not flyaways.
Understanding the operation of your Phantom is the best way to prevent "flyaways"
