What are the downsides of using a tablet or an unactivated phone for flying?

For most people, it means they need to cache the maps before they head out to fly, tether to a mobile phone to cache the maps out in the field, or fly with no maps. For others, it means they cannot live stream their flights to YouTube/Facebook. It's not a showstopper. It really depends on your personal needs.
