I've been reading that you need wifi to fly P3 standard.... is that true?? Or does data work?

The Wifi that is needed is in the drones wifi. Instead of connecting your device to the controller via USB, you connect your device to the built-in wifi. Watch the following video from 3:00 min to 4:00 min...
