I have some questions before I do that.
I've watched a lot of YouTube videos (reviews etc), read loads of comments/post on YouTube and this forum. I see a lot of talk about bad batteries, that they stop working after only 15-20 charges, and even if they show 90%, they could fly for just 1 min and then descend with red lights. People say the batteries sucks, other say they don't and the user just didn't handle them properly, like drain them first before recharging.
Then I hear about flyaways, but that seems to be a user error case in most cases as they didn't set things up properly. Then I read about them just dropping out of the sky where either the battery gave up even though it was fully charged and they had only been flying a couple of minutes, where others had the motors stop working (thin wires that broke from vibration I think I read).
And it goes on and on.... So I read that some of these issues were only in the earlier batches, and the latest have replaced and improved stuff like the motors. I read that one should make sure to get a model with a serial number of 640 (or something) and later, and also v2.1 ESCs (are ESC the motors?).
So, if I were to order one, what should I ask the retailer? I guess I should ask for the serial number, but is that on the box, or do they open the box up to check these numbers? I would think they wouldn't be OK with opening the boxes.... or maybe they would as it's probably not sealed or something special.
I've looked at a lot of different quads and this one has caught my interest. I want one with FPV, automatically going back to home when connection is broken (or I tell it to), automatic hovering in place, and a decent camera. They go for around $1300 here in Sweden, a bit too expensive for me, but I would go for it anyway. It's just I don't feel very safe after reading about all these issues. Any of you experienced quadpeople know of other more stable quads that you would recommend instead of this one? Or is this one OK as long as I get the latest versions?
I have flown a lot of quads with cameras, like Hubsan and Nine Eagles models, much tinier and cheaper than the Phantom 2 Vision +, but felt it was time to be more serious. So I would be very careful, read the manual thoroughly and do everything right every time, use a flight-check list etc. It's too expensive for me to take any chances/risks.
Also, all I have is an old iPhone 3GS with firmware 6.1.6. I checked the app in the store and could download and install it, and it runs, so I guess if I had the quad, it would work on it... but maybe its wifi is not good enough? Newer iPhone models would have longer range? (can't afford a newer phone though, rather buy this quad than a new phone).
Sorry for rambling...
