Imposing lines/boundaries in Litchi Mission Hub

Sorry for the dig. I lost interest at Win 8. I run win 7 64 bit with inpunity. Has everything I need and (Fully controllable) and will not subject myself to Mr. Gates impulses. Once Win 7 64 bit proved to run processes in memory I knew I had to marry it. What more could I ask for? Device drivers: written and provided, control over processes and "call home"... doable. The tipping point was reached in my own needs and that's where I stopped.. Similarly for DJI Go 2.9.1.
Your response doesn’t help. But I’ll bite.

Frankly if I could have stayed on WinXP I would have. Win 7 was then my go to OS for a long time. I never even went to Win 8 because it sucked. Microshaft even knows what a failure it was because they abandoned much of the changes and went back to something more usable in Win 10.

IIRC, I upgraded to Win 10 because I was suckered in by the last chance to update for free. I’m definitely not a knee jerk updater. I managed systems infra for a major investment bank for years and an important part was balancing between falling too far behind and being too much on the bleeding edge. Sometimes you get run into a cul de sac though if suddenly something you require doesn’t run on an old version of the OS so I decided to get the free Win 10 and be done with it.

Truth be told I have evolved into using it pretty much only for quicken. I do most everything else on my Mac desktop or iPhone. My Win 10 System is actually a virtual machine running on my Mac (using Parallels). And parallels throws another possible dependency in the mix for me. (I’m also not sure if my inability to install VLM is 32 bit related or VM related. My bet is 32 bit because I’ve not run into anything that knows it’s in a VM and won’t install.)

Now when it comes to drone firmware I believe version compatibility dependencies are fewer and that issue is less compelling as a driver to update. So I’ve downgraded my P4P to the beloved .509 version and there it will stay until a real compelling feature/fix is released and/or there is some dependency that crops up through, say, the SDK that ties a future version of Litchi to the AC firmware should that happen. I did the same with my P3S. Downgraded to a stable version and left it there.

I do have a physical machine with Win 10 that hasn’t been powered up in some time. I may fire it up and see if I have 64 bit version on there and if so, whether VLM will install. Right now, on the VM, the install program just throws an error that it’s not compatible with my system.

I forgot to mention that I think Apple screwed us out of the ability to nail ourselves on older versions of apps when they removed the storage of .ipa files in iTunes which used to be used when you restore. Now, AFAIU, if you have to restore your phone, it pulls all the (latest versions of) apps from the App Store - a back door way of forcing app updates on us.

I started building pc's at the XP point.. I had no idea what I was doing but have a knack for the stuff. I loved XP 32 in 2003. And tried Win 64 . (Cough) trying to get my X-Plane sim to work in it. Didn't... Then found win 7 64 and got it. Stayed with it ... even as we type.I'm no code guru, but know what works and doesn't (For my humble needs). I often wonder what "They" are thinking when they tout a "New" thing. They have the code gift thing, they are in Silicon valley... Just build us what we want! Oopss.... I was thinking it might get better. Well, I am happy with 7-64 and hope the internet accepts me for what I am. Did you try running it in.. Compatibility mode? (Rhetorically speaking).

Forced.... Yep.

Crap.. I'm sorry Big107... Call me D.B. Cooper for the hijack off into the neitherlands. I hope you have joy in your mission flying the houses and roads that did not exist when you planned it. Kind of a super human feat, I know you'll make it great... Also post the videos (Unless you crash it) (Do it anyway)...

I used to use Fly II. It was awesome. I used to find and add all sorts of photorealistic scenery and fly around. It wasn’t VR but very immersive. ;)

I would normally share the content but anything I do/shoot isn't mine to share and I signed a massive NDA yesterday in order to seal the deal. Ironically, I've not signed an NDA in years and I signed the two largest ones of my life within 8 hours of each other. One is local and one is 2 hours away but both should be FUN and hopefully some-what profitable. The local one I will be able to "Talk about" in the future once things are finalized and odds are the project this thread is about will become public at some point in the future as well.

No need to ever apologize for derailing one of my threads. I'm as guilty as most and when needed I have no problem "nudging" the thread back on track. Now if it were someone else's thread I might try to keep things on track for them but mine not so much. We are all here to learn and help each other so carry on as you were . . .

Make sure you mark those Litchi missions as private on the Hub. ;-). Don’t think that’s the default. ;)

It's not default so you're 100% correct :) Good call sir.

Not to hijack but has anyone gotten VLM to work on Win10 32 bit?

I put win 10 32-bit on one of my old laptops just before the 'deadline', just to have a copy to play with... left win 7 Pro on everything else around here. I don't mess with it very much but turned it on after I saw your question above... and of course it has a ton of updates. When it finishes, hopefully early this evening, I'll put vlm 2.1 on it and see how it works.

p.s. thanks for allowing the 'hijack' BigAl ;)

Great. I’ll look forward to seeing if it will let you install.

Bad news my man, sorry... it would not install on a 32-bit system, win10 or not... I tried it on a win 7 Pro 32-bit system also. Got the error message:

"This installation package is not supported by this processor type. Contact your product vendor."

After unzipping and running setup.exe*, VLM is just an executable on the desktop... named VLM 2.10 x64.exe.

Can you not run a 64-bit Virtual Machine on your Mac?... sorry, I'm Apple ignorant.

*edit to add: on a 64-bit PC

Thanks for the update! Same error I get.

Probably can run a 64 bit windows in a VM. I honestly don’t remember why I installed 32 bit one. Best guess is maybe that’s all I was entitled to with the free update to win 10.

I thought I'd come back and update this thread a little bit. First off,
I am absolutely LOVING this program @namirda. I have had an absolute blast playing with my missions and "Tweaking" them using VLM. Below is a screen shot of a Descending Spiral we are doing for a client next week.

I finally was able to add the image we had taken of the jobsite over the Google Earth Pro as a layer and now I can turn it On/Off at will.

Here's the image before adding the new layer:

And here is my layer added to the image:

Ok. I’m thinking a little out of the box here. But spitballing can lead to an idea that actually works. ;)

I assume your problem is that you believe what you need are not on ANY maps.

Litchi hub lets you see other published missions by other droners. See if there are any published nearby and if there is a way to contact the droner to see if s/he is willing to help by going to the site and grab coordinates and tracks.

Maybe less of a long shot is someone who works in the job site and is a bit of a geek with a gps or gps app that can get what you need.

One long shot deserves another. LOL. ;-)
Sadly, if you spend any time on the discovery pages of Litchi Hub, you will indeed see WHERE others have flown and made vids. However, more times than not, the vides ARE NOT the litchi missions as flown/designed and sometimes not the missions at all!

Porn links?!?....

Also BigAl, I didn't see this mentioned, but DroneHarmony will let you construct a 3D model and design a waypoint mission that will avoid obstacles. Using a map overlay (googleearth like), you can draw 3D shapes on top of structures (trees, buildings, anything really) on the map (OR ONES THAT ARE NOT THERE, hint, hint), and design speed, altitude, camera angles, etc. as waypoint missions.

My first impression of this tool was that onboard obstacle avoidance tech. would render this obsolete. This is NOT the case. If you check out the vids or the tools themselves, you will see the point.

Best,
