Fixing DJI's Compass Problem

I wish they had a fix for me.. Just got in touch with the dealer, after purchasing a pv2+.. Why do they always harp about compass calibration? Don't they know that's the first thing you do? I'm waiting to hear back from him again, as I'm concerned if I rotate the compass the 30 degrees, as on my vision 2, it'll void the warranty.. As it is right now, it's almost un-flyable.. 30' left swing, after a straight 40 foot run.. Then it instantly flops into a counter-clockwise TBE ... My declination is 17.2+ .. I tell you, if everyone experienced the left hook, and toilet bowl effect as I do, They'd either crash, or ship their copter back..

I don't see how rotating the compass would void the warrantee. If the thing fails I am sure the compass will be in the normal position when the dealer sees it.

I have eliminated the compass issue by rotating it ( my area is 15deg.) BUT there appears to be a fix out and its being beta tested now.

I see that Tom.. I'm wondering if that's why the dealer didn't get back to me.. Probably hoping something will come through.. Rotating the compass has worked wonders for my vision 2, by eliminating the TBE, but now I get a bit of a right hook.. My vision 2 hovers great, however, with the compass turned.. very easy to control.. But as I told the dealer with my 2+.. Had I been a newbie, it would have crashed by now; It's that unstable.. Even though all my numbers are well within the proper parameters, regarding calibration.

Has there been any feedback from NZ users yet? I'm in Christchurch and have the J hook problem every time I fly.
More than happy to load up the beta firmware and report back.

Hi Neil - yes Martin in Auckland has had some success: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=raCOlNep0P4

If you get bored, a couple of us are having a fly tomorrow (Monday 2nd June) in Botanic Gardens at 1pm. Kids playground area. (That one with paddling pool) Bring down the P2 and come say hi - see if we can get 3 phantoms dodge fighting!

There seems to be heaps of us Phantom users in Christchurch! Or at least active users on this forum.

I cannot imagine a more photogenic zip code for UAV than the south island of NZ. I haven't been in almost 20 years, but between Mt. Aspiring, Fox and Franz Josef glaciers, Wanaka and Wakatipu, Shotover River, etc., etc. your region is UAV porn!

Ian - you still alive or have you hit the bourbon to celebrate???
Ian u there?
I vote for you to keep this moving forward. Something must have happened to him.

Beta Testers- Have you all sent the data to Zach/Terry at DJI?

cruiser607's Firmware test https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=raCOlNep0P4
Onfourblades' firmware test https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0OS7Bbs ... e=youtu.be

Conclusions:
1. J- Hook auto corrected by 2nd or third run in high Magnetic declination areas ( -13 @ NYC,NY) Still waiting on higher Decl. areas test.
2. They have reduced the max tilt angle in both GPS and Atti mode. Max tilt as shown on my iOSD mini in GPS mode is now -13 degrees and in atti mode -25 degrees. I struggle to get more than 10m/s in GPS mode in forward flight. I am sure before it was -25 degrees for GPS and -35 degrees for atti.
3. 2m/s descents

Going forward- Dji must receive data from the testers with suggestions on flight limitations (its a slower bird).

Did i miss something?

I'm somewhat concerned that it isn't fixed right from take off. If the declination is correct and accounted for, and the compass calibrated, then there should be nothing to learn.

Course lock result?

And where is Ian?

Yeah learning is obviously still part of the program. No word from Ian for a couple of days. We may as well keep the conversation going regardless.

My declination is -23 can i help?

Yeah we should start a club! Come down to Gardens today at 1pm if you get time as well - and any other ChCh users who want.

Where the hell is Ian?

Abducted by Chinese agents. DJI must have reported him to the authorities as an international troublemaker. He made himself awfully easy to track down by posting that he was over Las Vegas last night.

Anybody with a Drunken Sparrow avatar better watch their backs!

Uh oh. They probably abducted him to put him to work! :D

Ian - text us you're location, we'll come get you!

Time to launch Project Missing Sparrow! Obviously the autopilot on his flight couldnt handle the changes in magnetic declination as they flew across the country.

Hey BigBadFun / varix / etc. Another Christchurch here. Just missed your post. Also suffering at -23 but what an awesome weekend to fly. Here's a little toilet bowl clip from Castle Hill yesterday https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5fjH13uNmrI

Such a brilliant toy but I do hope they sort this nonsense out.

Are there any Christchurch clubs / groups? May be a good idea to get people talking so we don't end up with this http://www.channel24.co.za/TV/News/...-Africa-banned-with-immediate-effect-20140530in NZ. It just takes one idiot to mess it up for everyone!
