Firmware 3.0 & Assistant Software 3.0 ??

If you are 3 miles out, you aren't in the no fly area. You are under the cone and height restricted. At 3 miles, you probably have 200ft or more. Not ideal but you're not grounded either. As for approaches, there would be no easy way to model restrictions around them and they tend to change.

While true enough, let's just say that 200' is inadequate for my flying style, particularly over the ocean which is largely "under the cone" as well in my area.

I'm sticking with 2.0.

Apologies if this has been reported elsewhere, but just noticed DJI offer both the 2.00 and 3.0 versions of the Assistant software now... how odd. Perhaps the backlash has forced them to fragment the OS?

what are the steps to go back to 2.0 from 3.0? Is it as simple as just hooking up phantom2 and running the previous 2.0 assistant? Does it lead you back?

I reverted back to 1.08 firmware after updating to 2.0 then 3.0 because the craft would not maintain elevation and overall general decrease in control. After reverting the craft controls the way it used too ie. very good response and feel. It was very easy to revert since the DJI software never uninstalls the previous version of the Assistant software, my PC has versions 1.0, 1.02, 1.08, 2.0 and 3.0. I simply ran the executable for 1.08, plugged in the Phantom, checked for updates and it said I could "update" from version 3.0 to 1.08, seems any variance from the current version is seen as an update, this happens to make things very easy. I did have a lingering issue, that is my Gimbal Tilt switch no longer worked, it stopped working after the update to version 3. I have the Zenmuse H3-2D gimabl. It was solved by recalibrating the X1 stick in the assist software.

Now before I start getting a bunch of advice please read these clarifications below. PS. I re-calibrated everything via the software after every version update, as well as re-calibrating the craft as well.

1. I have flown my Phantom 2 for 5 months EVERYDAY for an hour at least. This is the only way to become a good pilot.

2. I do lots of low flying over water, very delicate flight patterns, NO room for error.

3. I never update firmware unless I have an issue, don't fix it if it ain't broke.

4. I decided to update from 1.08 to 2.0 for one reason only, I loved the new max descent speed limit since my one and only crash was due to a very high altitude descent in stormy conditions and came down too fast and without enough forward/backward movement and entering into the wobble of death/vortex ring state and the craft plummeted to the ground. I now know that if I enter this state simply back of the throttle and give it forward or backward stick gently.

5. As soon as I updated to 2.0 I began to notice flight control issues, to be specific, the craft would no longer MAINTAIN altitude at hover and also when you moved in any direction the craft would lose altitude, I nearly ditched the craft into the water several times before heading to the backyard for some serious flight analysis. I verified that the craft no longer moved or responded in the same way it had for the previous 200 flights, I was always having to add throttle up to maintain elevation, with no control movement at all the craft would drop several feet and rise and fall slowly over and over, when moving in any direction the craft would lose elevation and lastly when I would do a big pull back shot ie. Backwards and up at the same time it would "hook" left as it flew away, not a hard hook but a hook. I do this type of shot every day and do know that a compass issue will cause the same thing, but remember I recalibrated my compass before each flight just trying to eliminate variables.

6. Next I upgraded to 3.0 just in case these were version bugs, they do occur, I am a programmer and I know how easy it is cause issues with "improvements" and debugging can take time. The flight control issues remained PLUS now my gimbal would not work. I did extensive flight tests, low level, hover, pull backs and all the conditions existed. Keep in mind I performed all tests in exactly the same location as to not introduce any locations variables.
7. Frustrated I got up this morning and decided to attempt a roll back to what IO deemed the last stable version 1.08. I read the forums but there was way too much conflicting and emotional dialog to sort thru so I decided to just give it a whirl. Since the DJI software never uninstalls the previous version of the Assistant software I DID NOT have to locate the installer for 1.08 or uninstall 3.0, all the older versions still existed in an installed state on my PC. I had versions 1.0, 1.02, 1.08, 2.0 and 3.0.
a. I simply located the executable for 1.08 C:\Program Files (x86)\DJI Product\Phantom 2 Assistant_1.08\Phantom2.exe
b. Plugged in the Phantom, checked for updates and it said I could "update" from version 3.0 to 1.08, seems any variance from the current version is seen as an update, this happens to make things very easy.
c. I then recalibrated the controller and went to do some hands on flight tests. Everything is now great again, all the previous issues were gone, no drop in elevation when moving, much more stable hovering and no more J hook on the big pull backs
d. Solved the Gimbal Tilt Switch problem thanks to the folks at DroneFly, the asked me to simply re-calibrate the X1 (Gimbal Switch) using the Assistant Software, go to Basic, then RC, then go to the Sticks Monitor and click Start in the X1 calibration, articulate the gimbal switch, then click Finish and all will be well.

I truly hope this info is helpful and would love to get your feedback. I love to fly my Phantom and know how hard it must be for DJI to manage hardware and software changes and also know they are trying to beat the governments to the punch at protecting airports and aircraft from careless pilots, I think this is a good thing for the sport.

Shew! I may stay on 1.08 forever after reading all this. My Phantom 2 is flying beautifully on 1.08.........if it ain't broke!!

The assist still download the firmware from DJI servers. Is there a way to save the files locally in case DJI removes them on their side?

I'm also interested in the steps to revert from 3.0 to 2.0

I've stuck with 1.08 (until I get a 3D which will force the upgrade) but I presume you can just download the 2.0 software and it will roll back. As I pointed out above, DJI are offering both 2.0 and 3.0 Assistant software -> http://www.dji.com/product/phantom-2/download

Give it a bash and report back.

I've got 2.0 downloaded sitting on my desktop. Ate a P&B sandwich when I got home and the white bread knocked me out. Nothing done except for mowing the lawn before said sandwich. Hopefully its just fire 2.0 up and simple revert.

I went from 2.0 to 1.8 today. I use a Mac. I located the Phantom_2_Installer_v1.08.dmg and opened it and put the installer on the desktop. I plugged my P2 in and started the software, then powered up the P2. I clicked upgrade and chose the 1.8 version. I clicked the upgrade button and it started normally but soon stopped and red arm lights started flashing and beeping. I got the spinning beach ball at this point and I waited several minutes but nothing. I powered down the P2, forced quit the 1.8 software. I restarted and the P2 was still beeping. I clicked the upgrade button again and it installed correctly. It then asked for a power cycle. After that all was back to normal and 1.8 was successfully installed.
I too noticed that as others have mentioned DJI has made version 2.0 available again along side the 3.0 version. They must be aware of our issues as only version 3.0 was available initially.

Dammit, I hooked mine up last night and completed the update. What have I done! My phantom is all over the place while in GPS at a hover. I should have known better.
stop breath relax...... Did you adjust the gains in previous versions? sounds like you have . this has an effect on updates as it seems they reset the gain so any changes you mad go the other way. try putting your gains back to how it shipped to you and it should be fine? let me know if this helps thanks

Not sure if it's helpful, but here are the three versions for MAC

http://brinh.redirectme.net:8181/phantom

Copy the three files in the zip file to your applications folder (MAC OSX only for now) and then run the one you want. I've used the 2.0 and 3.0 already and successfully downgraded to v 2.0 with that version's installer.

I think the moral of the story here is "Don't update your firmware unless you have to" If it aint broke, Don't fix it.

Recently upgraded to V2.0 from V1.08
Had about 20 full battery flights in total, about 18 on V1.08 and 2 on V2.0 (yesterday and today)
The first thing I noticed was that the GS worked (bought that way back in Jan) and the max decent rate was much slower (a good thing). Upon reviewing the videos however, I noticed that I am getting a lot more wobble in the yaw axis. Before on V1.08, the flight was buttery smooth and yaw would only be an issue if I yawed. Now, it seem to wobble randomly all the time. Not noticeable through FPV and doesn't affect flight performance, but ruins the smooth video.

Did I do something wrong? Do I need to adjust he gains?
Or should I just revert back to V1.08?

This is too bad because I liked the V2.0's slower descent rate and GS compatibility, however, I do not want to get an H3-3D gimbal to have smooth videos again.

I'm still on 1.8 and after reading this thread, I'm not going to update. Looks like I'm not getting the GS or any new DJI stuff for a while. So is it time to become non-Phantom pilots to escape all of these restrictions?

I did an 3.0 updates and my Phantom 2 has not worked since. Anyone else having this problem? I turn it on and it just goes to a solid red light.

I've called DJI here in the US and they put me on a email list. That isn't getting me up in the air.

Could I just order a new NAZA and be done with this probelm?

just upgraded to 3.0 from 1.08.... just to have full h3-3d control. No problem at all in the first two flights

WHere are you flying? Seems like there is some correlation to long lat.

My obvious first issue was with the craft no longer holding altitude and the loss of altitude when going forward or backward, just slowly descends with zero change in throttle.
