Controller not charging

Sorry newbie here. I can't switch my controller on by pressing the button twice and when plugged in to charge no lights comes on but I can feel slight heat on the controller. Not sure we're to go from here?

Perhaps the battery charge is so low, it hasnt enough power to power on.
Try plugging in to charger, then try turning on the controller..?
Leave the charger plugged in for a while...perhaps it will begin charging after a while. If it does leave it to fully charge to maximum (about 1.5 hrs)
