Okay if you don't know by now i get a serious buzz out of flying long distances. The furthest I've been is 2500 km out, still I want more!
I have a phantom 2. With 5.8 GHz FPV. Monitor I'm using is the black pearl vonista. I have a immersion 600 mW transmitter, on the transmitter I have a spironet antenna.
On the receiver/lcd i have another spironet and on the other side a fat shark patch antenna.
Now the problem that I am having is after 1800 km the Signal for video is really bad! keeps coming in and out. I have read online that this set up should be good to do 6 km,somehow I don't see this. If anybody else is also using a similar set up please let me know your feedback on how you are getting along.
The area I am flying in is urban area but I am at a high vantage point and have a clear line of sight with the bird.
I have tried several runs with different orientations and most is 2.5km. My conclusion I felt was that patch antenna is very directional and hard to aim, I think it's something like 30°? Either is that or something I'm doing wrong? Does changing the channels really help?
I spoke to FPV horizons in the uk today, he obviously tried to sell me his product and said it would be much better. He said that my problem is I am using a patch antenna, which works in something call linear? He said I need some thing Circular polarised.
So I am thinking of buying a blackhawk 5 turn helical and ditching the patch. Also changing the transmitter aerial to nimrod, he said that these will be both tuned and matched up and we both circular polarised.
So am going from 13 dbi gain to 9dbi, but it would be less directional.
Your thoughts guys and advice please on getting the most distance and is it worth the money changing.
Oh i must add he got 4km on the aerials he recommended with a 200mw transmitter!!!
