Is it me, or has these huge a** banners ad's been sprouting up like mushrooms lately?

I know all about promoting sponsors on a discussion forums. The last website of mine I sold it made $90k a year at the time of sell. The largest size banner I displayed at any location was 100hX500w. I spoke with the members on regular basis and asked them what things bothered them the most. They responded with the size of the banners as being 1st on their list. That is how I ended up with the size I mentioned above.
Banner's have to be made to display a certain way, otherwise those that visit the site never pay any attention to them, and everyone become numb of them being there. I don't pay any attention to the banner's on this site except when I accidentally click on one which happens about 6 times a day. These banners could have my name on them and I wouldn't even know it.

So I posted this thread because I was attempting to read through another thread when I noticed there was 5 of these banners being displayed with in a 10 post per page thread. I don't remember seeing that many in one area like that anywhere say a week ago.

Now it is rather important for a sponsor to co-exist with a community he is sponsoring. Otherwise it's a waste of money due to the members having to look at a ugly banner. We want deals, and we want special deals that nobody else can get but the members here, and if we aren't getting any type of deals then we don't care what kind of product you're selling. Anyway that describes how most of forums are anymore.

Re: Banner Ads

I'm with Enola Gay on the punctuation ... when you get apostrophes worked out, have a look at Adblock Plus

The ads don't bother me at all. I just tune them out when I don't want to see them.

Your apostrophe abuse notwithstanding, I have absolutely no problem with any banner ads.

If they bother you so much, you can certainly get rid of them:
Wow 9 post and your the punctuation king. Give the guy a brake or is it break , seriously , your worried , about , this !
And yes sometimes the banner get on my nerves. But when I watch the news on tv that's when I can't take the banners ..

I'm with frank. Those banner ads that slither across and completely obscure the entire article until you click a tiny little X are the worst but any gigantic ad is annoying. Those slithering ones keep on slithering back even after you click the X to get rid of them. And who's to say the X has been programmed to close the ad? It's just a button. Maybe pressing the X is actually the button for "load me up with spyware".

I use Adblock and Chrome. The two of them keep me fairly safe. If I find a site with gigantic ads that I can't block automatically I just don't go back to that site.

And as for the use of the apostrophe and/or Enola's sexual orientation - neither bother me.

Me neither. I'm happy Frank is here to contribute.

Now THAT is funny. (because when taken at face value the ignorance is astounding)

Like an onion there are layers and layers to my wry sense of humor. But yes, I am very familiar with the infamous role that plane played during the 2nd world war.

Agree.
First for the Grammar Police, the OP used the apostrophe ten times, three of them incorrectly.
If you don't like to see banners run the free AdBlockPro plugin.
Like you, the banners I hate are the ones on TV.

I started this thread to add some spice to the forum. When there is thousands that view this forum but only a true 40 or so members that actually contribute, says something is lacking here. I never expected for everyone that viewed this thread to agree with the banners being annoying. But to have someone or sometwo make fun of my personal inabilities, is not what I would expect from any member of this site. Never would I put myself in a position to appear as a bully because I was better at something then someone else. Besides, when have I ever made a claim that I was a grammar specialist?

Don't let him get you down. Settle it like real men. Swap your blades for carbon fiber props and have your drones meet on the field at sunrise. I have a feeling you will be flying home while his will be begging for mercy.

Hate ads but I guess it's how things work.
TV banners are the very worst and for me, very distracting!
The incessant use of Twitter and Facebook crap is also very annoying. Not to mention the ridiculous
influence social media seems to have. Just like the high school clique crap that should be behind us.
I'm thankful there is none of that here.
Funny how our language has changed. Anyone remember when a **** was a short name for Richard?
Gay was when we were happy and going out for a *** meant having a smoke. And implied innuendo, imagine asking your buddy if he's "ever sucked on a Fisherman's friend", the throat lozenge! Throat lozenge, lol even has extra meaning!

Frank no-one was making fun of you or bullying you. We just saw that as an opportunity to point out (and not just to you) that apostrophes don't belong in plurals. The internet is getting swamped with it and seeing so much of it, people get the idea that it is correct.

Exactly. It was a side comment to your inability to ignore/block the banner ads which apparently cause you a great deal of discomfort.

One has to wonder how you make it through a day in the real world if you are equally as sensitive and thin-skinned.

Well I'll tell ya it's pretty **** rough in my world. I became disabled in 2004 and had the ability to work taken from me. I now have to live my days on the strongest pain medicine there is which thankfully keeps me from having a pump surgically installed in my body somewhere. I use to make a decent living and since the accident at work my house has been scheduled for sheriff sale two times. I was able to save it both times so there never was a foreclosure. It will be paid off in 3 long years. I'm not making any claims of being broke, but I will be if my quads continue to drop out of the sky.

The banners on the site were brought up to be something a little different to talk about. I saw they were showing up a lot in certain areas and I felt if something isn't mentioned about them, they will only continue to more by the numbers. And now you guys have actually turned people off from posting their opinion because since you posted, I have had 3 people send me a PM to share their thoughts on the subject.

That is simply devastating!

One has to wonder how those other sheeple (if what you have posted is indeed the truth) make it though the day in the real world if they are as equally sensitive and thin-skinned.

I never speak about my personal life in the public, and that there was the 1st time I have ever mentioned it publicly.

Yes, something is indeed lacking... the ability of some members to reply to the posts of others with a reasonable level of courtesy or politeness, even if they disagree or dispute those posts. If you ever sit and wonder why so few people get truly involved in contributing to forums like this, replies like the one below from you Frank are a big contributing factor.

"Never would I put myself in a position to appear as a bully because I was better at something then someone else."

Really??? "Bully" must be a very subjective term.

"But to have someone or sometwo make fun of my personal inabilities, is not what I would expect from any member of this site."

So why is it that you have this expectation that people are not going to belittle you, when you have no problem treating others in this manner?

Frank, I think you are one of the most knowledgeable persons on this forum (a couple of forums, actually). I have learned a lot from reading your posts, and you have helped a lot of people. I truly appreciate that. However, given the fact that I personally know what you are willing to write for no apparent reason other than to belittle, I find your "never appear as a bully" statement absolutely absurd, and your sensitivities to being made fun of are a bit hypocritical given your very own words so eloquently prove people are going to say what they want. Toughen up and get over it. You are FAR better than this drivel.

There's one other consideration I had when deciding on the Flytrex Live 3G over a stand-alone GPS tracker. I wanted a system that would allow me to actually verify the GPS position of my MR before I launched it. It sounds like any GPS reporting device would suffice, but not so.

As you can see I removed 90% of the quote above. That has to be the most crap I have read from this forum, ever. All of what was mentioned was meaningless. Neither the vPlus or Flytrex equipped quads are capable of this mystery position location junk. And if your phone does display something like that, then it means you haven't updated your phone since 1999.

Once again I find the need to lock another thread down due to members squabbling over nothing. Nitpicking among members is always a problem, but that is one all the moderators in the world can not fix.

While everyone likes proper grammar, we all slip up sometimes. Four words for everyone... spell check, use it.

No one likes ads but as many have suggested, you could easily block them. Being a website owner you are familiar with the cost of running servers and such to keep a 'free' website free. Ad's are a necessary evil.

The owners may never see this thread and thus it will never produce the result you claim to want. Since you have run sites in the past do you feel posting a thread here (in the wrong area I might add), was appropriate? Or would an email with your views or suggestions sent to the site owners have been a better solution?

To all members: Negative comments are counterproductive and unwanted in the forum.
