Zenmuse H3-3D on a Phantom 2 Vision Plus

so if 2.4 radio will interfere with 2.4 video link what about if dji ground station is working on 2.4 and people use it with 2.4 phantom remote controller and it doesnt make any problems ?

the way I understand it is that ground station is using digital data and the bandwidth is very little where video is constantly transmitting high bandwidth stream.
I guess it's like using two phantoms and two controllers next to each other and they won't interfere.

finally installed iOSD mini.

I've been working on a similar mod (installing H3-3D on a Phantom 2 Vision) and have run into a number of problems. First, the yaw axis motor did not have clearance so I had to 3D print a spacer. You can find the file here: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:325877 With the new spacer, I was able to attach the gimbal to the P2V successfully.

The second problem is that there is no ribbon cable to connect the gimbal to the Phantom's circuit board because there is supposed to be one already inside the Phantom's case as the gimbal is designed to work with the Phantom 2, not the Phantom 2 Vision. I fashioned my own 8 pin cable from junked computer parts and was able to successfully plug into the interference board (which was plugged into the zenmuse gimbal).

also, I unplugged the three wire cable that used to plug into the stock vision camera from the P2V's circuit board, but did not unplug the thick white cable (that looks like a headphone jack). It is still connected to the board, but not into any cameras or gimbals.

Currently, the gopro is getting power, the Phantom spins up and will likely fly. The problem is that I don't know how to get the camera feed onto the iPhone app or other FPV system or control the gimbal movements!

MY QUESTION IS: Has anyone successfully done this exact modification (H3-3D to Phantom 2 Vision)??? If so, where are the tutorials???? Someone please link me one. If this works, I will be sure to make a step-by-step tutorial to share with the community!

SECOND QUESTION: I realize that DJI is closed source company, but does anyone have schematics for the P2V and/or the H3-3D??? I'm not an Electric Engineer, but know a bit about circuits etc. and would benefit from reading that kind of thing.

please help! Thanks, Fletcher

Has anyone had any luck with this? I have a Phantom 2 Vision (the original Phantom 2 Vision, not the plus version) and I'm looking to install the Zenmuse H3-3d on it. I'm aware of the issues as mentioned above, but has anyone found a way to control the gimbal via a lever on the controller or through the mobile app? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I dont know if its the same with vison but in my case (vision plus) iI had to enable lever gimbal control with this tool https://www.dropbox.com/s/17l9l7jgnijngmj/phantom2-tool.rar?dl=0 by changing from Vision to H3-2D.

Firstly.. this is only theorectical as I dont own a GoPro (yet - deciding is the 3+ black better than the 4 black in value).
It's an alternative and it will not provide IOSD (yet).
Flame me as much as you want as any feed back is good feedback.

I'm looking at 2 paths. One is to use my existing vision plus with a $400 zenmuse gimbal; and the other is going down the $1500 path with a Phantom 2 + H3-3D (950), immersionRC (100), Black pearl 32 channel (299), mini IOSD (75) - go pro not included.
The $1500 is tested and stable and does not have immediate video feed cut-out, and hence the premuim

I DO NOT want to go down the DE swappable path. $400 is a little expensive.

What do i know..
GoPro operates on 2.4Ghz and that will not interfere with the vision series controllers (5.8ghz).
Some of the GoPro models have wifi streaming back to IOS and Androids via the app.
The app can change video settings, capture images, record on the fly.
There will be no radar and telemetry as the IOSD cannot be fed back.
There is 2-4 second video lag (dont fly out of visual range i guess)
There is a 75-100 feet LOS limitation for video feeds.

This would be great for flyers like myself who don't like to venture far.

I've seen many AR drone users create wifi extenders with battery pack to to overcome the distance limitation.
What i cannot prove (until i obtain a GoPro) is whether a wifi extender like below would work.
http://www.tp-link.com.au/products/deta ... TL-WA750RE

You can then later get a battery and make a portable wifi extender.

We know the zenmuse gimbal is working on the vision series with a limitation of the 7th channel.
I assume that the Phantom tool will resolve that

Can anyone see any problems?

This guy below has seem to take the same approach. His video isn't well documented and he hasn't posted the results.

And just a note.. Phantom 2 + Zenmuse H3-3D = $950. Zenmuse H3-3D on its own is $350-450.
I'm sure i would be able to make a hot swap plate to switch between GoPro and back to vision.
This is why its a conflicting path...

But a P2V+ uses 5.8Ghz for the controller, so the GoPro's 2.4Ghz shouldn't be an issue.

There are other folks who are looking into feeding GoPro video into the P2V+'s wifi module. I'm anxious to learn what they discover.

Do you have the wiring schematics for the IOSD to molex?

I just googled "Phantom can bus wiring" and this is the first result: http://media.tumblr.com/257407347dc1a697b17be17fd19601ba/tumblr_n498m7XXU11sgzr25o3_r1_1280.jpg

Wow. Why didn't I think of that. Lucky you didn't do the "Let Me Google It For You" :)

I know the mini iOSD is an overlay over the video source. I think its possible by wiring yellow/brown/orange cable to intercept the gopro video. The problem will be the DJI app will look cluttered with the iOSD overlay. I guess its better than nothing..

Correct me if this is true..

Tong Mokrajy out of Thailand has created the Smartrelease GoPro adapter for the Vision+. It is supposed to be a cheaper alternative to the DronExpert Quick Release mentioned here previously. Tong's adapter recently went into production and it appears he has received his first manufacturing run. Given that his information is not in English it is hard to discern how to order one or how much they cost exactly (in US dollars). Maybe one of you guys can be a guinea pig for us and get hold of one for testing. ;)

I damaged the Phantom 2 vision plus camera/gimbal and replaced it with a Zenmuse H3-3D and GoPro 3 Black. Using the 8pin cable from the 3 cable setup of the vision 2 + my H3-3D gimbal works fine but i do not have any power to or video from the GoPro. Anyone have advice on how to wire an H3-3D and GoPro 3 Black onto a Phantom 2 Vision Plus?? Thanks

I wanted to get more conversations going how to use the HD-3D with Vision Plus because I did, less some 7 channel issues.

My journey.
I had a mild drop/crashed P2V+ gimbal. I would have had it fully rebuilt myself however a small electrical component was broken. I was unsuccessful procuring the single board in the gimbal. The only option was to replace the whole unit($650+) or send it to DJI. I was not happy and would rather burn the unit and build from scratch then to continues supporting products that locks out diyer and moders. Nevertheless my pockets are not lined with gold so how to solve the problem?

With others help I have a working gopro3 on the Zenmuse H3-3D with the p2 vision plus. Everything works well with the wifi network connected to the Phanton. 7ch tilt lever works too however we must start and stop the camera manually. Now for the bummer. When I start the DJI application on my S4, I lose the 7channel. I must reboot the unit to re-establish the 7 ch. Everything thing else works great. I love having the sound even is it is all noise and better picture quality.
Can anyone speak to the facts about using the 7ch with the above mention configuration?

I'll report back what I find.
