Firmware updates are optional. But, do you have a reason not to update? If so, don't update.

There hasn't been a P3 update in quite some time. I am still flying on 2016 firmware. No need to update. Again, its personal preference.

BUT : Hows the battery been stored?......do you trust it IF you do fly a battery thats not been stored properly ?....I hope that it has been stored correctly......Stay low and watch the battery cells closely as you fly ! Fly safe.
