Well I'm sad to say the dreaded stress crack has finally bit me. I have had my P3P since December and 98 flights. I have done nothing but baby my P3P. I have installed gimbal guard, killer RC gimbal saver, and infinite hobby cnc strong arm plates. I don't fly crazy, no sudden stops, no fast maneuvers, etc.

I do pre flight and after flight inspections. After a flight an hour ago I landed and noticed the crack during inspection.

I'm pretty upset that an item costing this much has only lasted this long.

What is the proper process to have this taken care of now?

Call dji for your warranty replacement it'll take about 2 weeks for them to send it back.

Or if you prefer, you can replace the shell yourself. About a 3-4 hour job, if you're handy. No soldering required, but lots of patience is.

I thought about doing it myself but it's under warranty. I just emailed support for now.

I guess I need to remove my extra add ons now.

I just hope they don't mess up my bird as its in brand new condition. Wish they had a program to upgrade to the P4. Maybe when I get it back I will sell the whole setup.

Already got a reply from DJI, it's probably computerized and setup an repair ticket and account.

Yeah might as well send it in while its under warranty do you don't screw it up. I'm getting mine back in tomorrow.

Yeah, you did absolutely nothing wrong. These shell cracks are such a blemish in what is a really great product.
At this point, I wish DJI would just make an "upgrade" shell available for purchase. Good luck on the warranty claim.

I have seen cracks there before on the forum. I'm in chat with DJI, regardless the crack should not be there at all. It's like having prop protector plates installed.

those strong arm plates basically replace the entire assembly at the under motor mounts, you had to replace the screws I'm sure, are you sure you didn't tighten them down too much? or ever if one was much looser then another, more stress could have been added, just saying it looks much worse than a typical stress crack

Nope, I'm particular in taking care of my aircraft. I have had them installed for a long time.

I'm thinking of hanging on to it and flying. The more I look at the crack it is on the upper area and not around the mounts. I have warranty until November 30, what do you think?

It looks like your plates may have saved the bottom of the shell.
I would not fly it like that. So why not take the top off and look. If the top is all you need
replace the top your self.

The crack is on the upper shell & it isn't in a support area. The part going around the motor is more like a trim ring. Personally I'd mix some 5-minute epoxy, spread the crack, & carefully apply some epoxy to repair the crack. Clamp or hold it tight while it sets & have some alcohol ready to wipe away any excess for a clean repair.

I agree with DB, repair yourself. Cyano and 5 min. Epoxy are essential 'field repair' items.

I'm leaning towards fixing myself. I'm running an older firmware too and don't need any issues of Dji sending it back upgraded.

I have an authorized dealer/repair about 25 minutes away in north Miami too. I wonder if they can do it under warranty.

I would have been happy if mine would have gotten that many flights before the crack showed up. Less than 2 weeks and 10 very easy flights later I returned mine to best buy and exchanged it for a new one. Mine cracked on the bottom part of the shell coming from a screw hole.

Well call them up and do it. I don't know why everyone doesn't like the warranty. Time? If I had a choice for my car to be fixed for free at the dealership VS doing it my self I'd send it to the dealership! Plus you get a new shell!

My crack is different but with my crack I used strong arms to continue to fly it for some bigger outings and during low time in the summer sent it off before he next event!
