Sending PMs

Sorry if this is a daft question, but I've just tried to send someone a PM for the first time, and it's sitting in my "Outbox", with nothing appearing in "Sent Messages". Is there anything I have to do to send the message, or will it go by itself at some point?

I do not believe it shows up as sent until the recipient actually opens the message.
