Rooting tips

I am preparing to root my Samsung TAB A SM-T280, to use exclusively for flying my P3A. I am new to Android. It'a new world of terms, abbreviations, and techniques. I am doing the research and obtaining the apps needed. I would greatly appreciate any and all methods, advice, tips, & comments,

Why would you want to root your device? Just curious

I have been having problems for some time with it. I can substitute another device and the problem is not present. I think it is on the borderline of being under powered, even though I have heard from others who are using the same device without problems. It worked ok initially, but after a while and some unwanted updates, it started choking on the video. I'm going to try and see if it will work after cleaning out all the junk I can't disable or delete.(which I've already done).
If that doesn't solve the problem, I'll have to look for another device. Gary
