Repurposing control channels

Hello,

I would like to use a Phantom 4 to take air samples using an on-baord pump. I would need to activate the pump in-flight. Is it possible to do this using the drone's own controller, or would I have to add a separate radio control unit? If necessary/possible I can remove the camera and use the control for that.

Any advice appreciated. Thanks!

I know you can turn the front LEDs off and on in the app while you're flying, maybe a micro relay in place of the LED's?

Oh, I didn't know it has controllable LEDs. That sounds like it could work. Thank you.

Is it easy to take the Phantom 4 apart with a screwdriver (to get to the LED wiring), or does it have some kind of moulded casing?

Photosensitive switch would allow it to activate without wiring directly to led.

Turn on lights. Switch turns on. Activate pump.

Or search for the led spot lights kits that have remotes, about 80-$125.

this is the company that sells remote light kits, would be easy to repurpose, not sure on range though.
