It seems that more people than usual are having fly-aways or incidents that mean they lose their P3. It can be for many reasons and that is not the issue here.

Many posts all talk about uploading Logs and so on to determine why ... great ... but what we need is to try and sort what to do at the time it all happens.

Many especially new owners fail to realise the value of the tablet / phone screen when that precious P3 goes off on its own or battery dies etc. But that screen can provide one of the best ways to find that wayward bird.

So here's a video excerpt from my own fault loss of my P3S ... where I was silly and ran out of battery ...

The main point to note : Is do NOT switch off or close the APP ... you MUST keep it open and displaying that all important last position. If your phone / tablet has GPS ... then you are onto a possible winner. If not - then you have to be able to decipher the image to work out where to go.

Remember that 99.99999% of the time - your P3 will be down in some brush, trees, somewhere where you are unlikely to receive continuous position data once its down. That last position on your screen is your lifeline to it ... don't lose it !!

What if your phone / tablet shut down or you lost that screen display .. then you go into the logs, extract the GPS coordinates and use your Tablet or TomTom or whatever to get to that spot.

Of course all the above is not much use to those that lose their P3 and then come on Forums to get answers .. I / we cannot get this sort of advice out to new buyers ... sadly.

But to all those who do read this - I hope you never need the above ... but if you do - I hope it helps ...

Remember watch that battery level .. watch that wind ... make sure all is good ...

Cheers

I use Litchi and if I ever lose my p3p, on my tablet (Nvidia Shield K1) even after I've switched it off I can switch the tablet back on and click on Litchi and under AC is "find my AC", click on that and it shows where it was at last connection,
so no need to keep the tablet on, even after a couple of days I can still see where my p3p landed last flight.

hope this is helpful advice

All additions / comments that add to the original I posted are very welcome ...

I forgot about Litchi Last Position ... good catch.

The main thing is though - using the screen works for all APPS ...

I have been corrected on GO as well ... nice to see info coming in :

"Dji Go uses : Find my Drone that shows it's last location, also open the playback log the GPS lat and long as well as map data is available"

Good stuff ..

Don't tempt the Gods !!

OK .. two questions ... because I have never used these two functions and I suggest BEST action is NOT shutting down APP in a fly-away situation to find the 'drone' ...

DJI GO : Find my Drone

I cannot find this function on my Android GO vers 3.1.10 (latest update today) and all references I find online indicate it as a GO4 function ...

So if anyone has info where this function is in GO for P3 ... please let us all know ?

Litchi : Find My Aircraft

This one I know where it is, but still never used it. It sits in the General Page of Settings ...

Does Litchi FMA look for a new signal of AC position or does it recall the position after shut down of the APP ? This is a vital piece of info because if it looks for a new signal - it has no use if AC goes down and cannot transmit its GPS co-ords.

...................

As I say - I only use the on-screen of the 'event' to find item. I don't trust switching off and then trying to locate ... call me paranoid on this - but $500 ... $1000 is not peanuts to lose for sake of a bit of tablet battery life !

?? C'mon guys ... we need to nail this and maybe help someone save their lost AC ...

Nigel,

What is there to nail. Your vid and my explanation says it all really, or am I missing something?

I don't use Litchi because I don't feel the need for it - yet. I am one of the 'if it aint broke ..................' brigade.

no it does not look for a new signal all it does is to show where it was last time when the app was shut off

I ask that because my Tablet has lost its Litchi install and I had to install again ... but it did not pick up any of the cached files from last installation ... when I opened to try FMA ... it just showed my position at house !

I have not removed my old logs or cache files ...

Until I get my P3P back from the Dutch - I cannot check myself ..

Cheers

OK ... I have on good authority, DJI Support, that GO for our P3's does not have Find my Drone function ... it is only in the GO 4 version.

Therefore back to my original post and how to use on-screen info.
