Hi all,

I have been lurking here for about a month and thought it's time I say 'Hi' :D

I got my vision 2+ about 2 weeks ago and have 6 or so flights under my belt. I read a lot here before receiving my bird and I put it in NAZA mode before my first flight. I did one flight to make sure it was working and then did the tinfoil mod (during my first flight I confirmed that I lost satellites when recording. now with mod getting 9-12 satellites). My last time out was the first time I flew in Atti mode (that was fun! hit 50+ mph) and first time I really range-tested it -- got to 2100 ft @ 130 ft altitude. I ran the boost app and did not see an improvement in range; however, I will try it some more though before drawing a conclusion on the app. Sometime in the future I will probably do the stage 2 pilot-side antenna mod. Still looking for a good case or backpack. Still need to try the ground station. Still haven't tried FPV mode either. Anyway, this thing is awesome, no buyer's remorse at all!

I have 1 quick question to ask the pilots here. Do you point the antenna up or do you point it to the side. I understand the bird should be radially positioned from the axis of the antenna, but I've seen videos with the antenna vertical and horizontal to the side (above the FPV antenna). Does one give better range over the other?

Here is a quick video from my last flight:

Here is a video from last weekend flying with my friend and his home-built quad. It's from my camera, but he edited the video.

Thanks Geert. That was helpful. I saw that thread when it started, but the last few pages I hadn't seen yet explained it well.
Thus, videos like this are not correct:

Hi Max, nice video! Hope you are enjoying the forum and your Phantom. :D
In my experience, I like the transmitter antenna vertical towards the bird. It should give the strongest signal when matched to the birds bipolar antennas which are also vertical. That being said, I've flown with the transmitter antenna sideways like Simons video and never lost control signal. The only times I have lost control signal was when I was high overhead and the tip of the antenna was pointing at the bird. I just keep that in the back of my mind in case of lost control signal and a return to home is triggered. Have fun, and welcome! :D
