Flight mode problem

After watching several youtube videos on Flight modes I decided to have a go on the flight simulator.
Its nothing like Ive been watching
1. when the copter is in the air I switch from 'P' to 'A' mode. the screen tells me this, however there is no icon for me to tap to bring up the box to perform the various tasks such as points of interest etc.
2. Ive checked and the multi flight modes has been activated..
3. When I put it into 'A' mode I push to go forward and the copter moves forward, when I let go it just keeps going forward, the same in reverse etc.. When I put it back to P mode it stops and its back to normal.

Can anyone please tell me if its right or is there some thing else I need to do?

This is normal, POI and others need GPS active, atti flys' without GPS position control and it will drift to a stop and will get carried away with the wind. In atti the GPS will (should) bring your craft back home in case of RTH engagement. P and S mode have GPS positioning.(P4)

You don't put it in A mode for flight modes. You put it in F mode.

Actually it's beneficial to practice manual flying in ATTI mode should the A/C suddenly go into ATTI mode without warning. You then need to fly the A/C by the "seat of your pants".
