Dronexpert gimbal for Phantom Vision

Yes, I am pretty close to your area. Did the shoot today and went well......well a little well anyway. I had three ground cameras going as well as the Phantom for the first burn today. Went well and think I got some good video. However........the big boys in the tower of the A&M School saw the drone and demanded for me to land. I did and there was a lot of discussion that occured and we had prior approval before I even went as I knew enough to check first. Anyway, they said that had no procedure for doing this and until a procedure could be written, no more flying. I got a lot of video anyway, just only one overhead view. Dissapointing, but I understood, however, my company was pretty upset since we had verbal approval prior to going to this school. There are a lot of ongoing discussions, but am sure it will not happen this week. Wednedsday is my last day here. I haven't viewed the video yet, but from looking at the screen, it looks ok. When I landed, I saw a lot of water on the drone from steam and such from the fire fighting and I was carefull to stay away from any water spray. Didn't seem to hurt anything. Will be viewing the video this evening and tomorrow ready to video again Wednesday. Tons of very close video right up next to some pretty large fires and more overhead would have sure helped suppliment the video outcomes. Dissapointing conclusion.

Sorry for the issue. I also will be shooting aerials this week. I hope to get the filters and filter holder and attach them with rubber bands as suggested by White

More the rubber bands on the bottom of the skids, and the DE sitting on them.

Remember with the filter, you will likely get some reflections from between the lens and filter on the video. When I tried the polarizer filter by a few touches of hot melt glue, it held well but had some reflections on the video which were not terrible, but bad enough that I would be hesitant to use a filter due to the reflections. Can possibly eliminate using a dark flat black cover over the silver part outside of lens, but just didn't see any positive effects when I tried using the filter. I removed mine and going as is. I am uploading my video of today, but will take several hours to upload. Here is the link to the video, but will take a while to complete the upload, so if you can't see it, it will come later after it completes.

This has been noted using the lens filter kit, too. Phantompilots member Coloradosky has produced some matte vinyl stickers to kill the glare off the bezel and users have reported it does the job (waiting on mine in the post..) http://www.signsoflife.net/phantom-bezel.php

To you dronexpert gimbal folks:

now, i dont own this gimbal but as I have said before having the gimbal platform which is supported by the legs of the phantom is a bad design IMO. In an attempt to make the phantom legs stable as a single unit, I would think exerting force from the inside of the legs out may help eliminate the jello I have seen in many of the dronexpert videos. Perhaps inserting 2 rods or wooden dowels between the legs will help. See below. Its worth a shot if this can be done...like I said, I havent seen the gimbal in person and not sure if this is even possible.

I was thinking the same thing. If you can stiffen up the legs, that should eliminate some jello-effect. The only thing with two braces on the legs, the front one would blick the camera. But I'm sure someone here will come up with a solution.

Sorry, here is the link and is finished. No fancy flying, just trying to get some semi stable footage to go with ground videos. No editing or stabilization applied. Just uploaded the raw file. http://youtu.be/fMYWFb8YqeY

Hi, do you balance your porps or change new set ?
My first test fly have same problem

Change new props fly.

Per the recommendation of Dronexpert, I did change my props out with new ones when I changed to the new pads that were sent. I did not see any changes in stabilization doing either thing. The new props were right out of the package.

Dastagg .. . nice video! it may be the small nature of how I was viewing it, but I didnt see any (a tiny bit in the beginning) jelloing. Nice video! So why did they tell you no more flying?

Thanks and yes, just a tad of jello and sm satisfied with results. Working on the finished production now and should finish this first one this evening I hope. They told me to stop flying because they didnot have any procedures for controlling this type of activity. Another company did simulat just a couple of weekd prior snd no problem as well as a supplier of theirs but apparently, the same person that saw mine didn't know about the others. My lead instructor was quite upset and had meeting with officials, hut until they develope a procedure for operstion of these, no more flying. This is to be used for classroom training for review prior to attending this school in future, so it was only supplimental video with other cameras to improve options of view points. Oh well, will continue Wednesday without a drone. Got one off anyway, but only had one other camera on this same burn since it was the smaller burn and first getting set up. Will post final when complete if desired.

Hi, I received my new DE-gimbal (with P2V) from Netherlands today. After seeing this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xadGv5_lW8w it i's very difficult to wait for tomorrow and finally try it out for the first time. I just can't see too much jello on this new video?

Batteries are loaded, software updated, everything ready for the first flight. I just hope everything goes well

That's one of the best videos I've seen. Maybe the newest of the new dampers have resolved the jello issue!

I completed one of many more to come videos of the Texas A&M Fire Training for the company I work for. Nothing elaborate, and this was one of the smaller projects that were done preparing for some much larger projects later in the day. I have them, but those will be much more time consuming since I had up to 4 cameras going on those. Filming more tomorrow all day then back home to start working on them. I can't watch this one very well on You Tube since my hotel wireless internet is very slow. Hard to tell as it even seems to be viewed in a lower resolution on my computer, but looks better on my iPad. Can tell more when I get back home and at work again. Anyway, here is a draft of the final project. http://youtu.be/fBif-cTq5Qs This is to be used primarily for training of new fire brigade members, so nothing elaborate is needed.

well my gimbal arrive but i have some issues, i install everything like manuals says, but i see rare movements like you see in the video, and i have install the lever but not work,

Oukenfold:
What cable is this loose out there? and did you set the values on assistance software, calibrated the compass, wait some seconds after powering the phantom on to let the gimbal motors start. Pushed the camera jack on board?

Also. Oukenfold. Follow the instructional video from Dronexpert website to install the 7th channel. There is a flat cable that most be free of movement.

the cable is for my lhcp antenna,
i set the values as manual i calibrate the compas, and yes when i power up the phantom the gimbal starts and levels, but when i move it more harder start to make this rares movments

and the lever 7th install it but do not work, only with the iphone i can tilt down and i have video as well.

Did you remember to plug in that wire harness that you unplugged to get to the 7th channel pluginside case of drone? I forgot and things went wierd and I then remembered that that top harness needed to be plugged in. Opened mine back up and plugged in and all went well afterwards.
Edit - never mind, I see by video now that you did plug it in by the actions in the video.

Got my DE gimbal two days ago, put together a little test flight clip from yesterday:

Nice video. I like the smoothness of moving your camera up or down. My 7th channel slider seems to stick and makes mine move with a jerk. Oiled the slider a bit, but didn't seem to help. You did a fine job.
