Antenna type and distance achieved

Guys quick question. I am at work and didn't have time to read over this thread to locate the answer to this question.
I have a couple of these cables left over from my repeater mod. Is this the same cable I need for the camera mod?

2 of 2X U.FL Mini PCI to RP-SMA Pigtail Antenna WiFi Cable (copied from my orders on Amazon)

thanks!

Yes the same

when u screw the antenna into the sma connector it only screws in bout 2/3rds of the way is that correct?

im hoping the tp link antenna will give me better results
if not ill convert it back to stock and try that just to make sure the extender is not damaged

then if that works ill try replacing the external antenna cable

thats bout all i can do if non of that works i have no clue what could be wrong

A guy in the other thread had a pigtail wire that was shorted
Maybe double check those

how do i check that
do i just need to replace the antenna lead and see if the new one gives me better results?

well i changed the pigtail antenna lead last night, cant test it yet as the crap weather has returned to the uk so who knows might be another month now before decent weather comes back
i should have my tp link antenna tomorrow so ill put that on too and test it all at the same time
also ordered another 2 pigtail leads so i have spares
if non of this works ill just post pics of the inside of my extender and the antenna when its screwed in just so u guys can tell me if it all looks ok.

cheers

i have a question

the part of the antenna lead sticking out of the extender that u screw the external antenna into has a lil center pin

how far out does that pin extend?

i just had my 2 spare antenna leads and looking at them and the one i have on the range extender all 3 of the center pins are different lengths

This video will show you how to do the mod to the extender he also has links to the parts needed
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=aEHzDi4hHKU
The to link 9 is a directional or omni and the 8 dbi is an omni
I have gone to 1800 ft with the 8 omni and 1500 ft with the 5 omni
I don't have a 9 directional but have seen ranges from 1800 to 3000 ft

Sorry for a stupid question. I was thinking of adding an 8 omni to the repeater. Do I need to mod the Vision camera as well or will modding just the repeater suffice ?

Just the repeater if all you want to add is a 8 omni

Ok thanks

All I want to do is increase the range of the Wifi so that at least it is equal to the range of the Tx.

I don't want to start modding the Vision camera unless I really have to, so I'm hoping that just having an 8 dbi omni on the repeater will do that.

Latest update on my Wi-Fi repeater. Charged it fully one week ago. Yesterday, I checked the battery again (did not put it on for 6 days) and it took me 60 minutes to get it back to full power!!!

So, guys, please, always charge your Wi-Fi repeater immediately before you fly, otherwise, you will surely have problems with the range and/or with your DJI app. This is probably more relevant than the 2.4GHz antennas you might use for your FPV.

Alternatively, charge your Wi-Fi repeater while you are using it.

Try one of these external battery chargers, for example: http://www.ebay.com/itm/200988206233?ss ... 1497.l2649 or http://www.ebay.com/itm/140956790897?ss ... 1497.l2649

A few months ago I posted the critical finding (in my opinion) that the repeater must be kept at top of charge to ensure maximum range. I used a USB battery pack. The current draw during use is around 330 mA so the internal repeater battery voltage can drop off quite quickly. Using the USB power pack and with completely stock ( out of the box) Pv I consistently achieved around 650 metres of flight with full video.

The same happens to me. I keep mine on a charger 24/7 just in case I get a spontaneous urge to fly . I will invest in a battery back up charger to use during flight.

got an external charger to back up my wifi extender..no difference..still drops at 600ft distance.

make sure the antenna is not pointing directly at the phantom.

the tip of the antenna has the least amount of transmission. the flat side of the antenna should be pointed towards the drone when flying.

I typically got 300 ~ 320m if I am lucky. Desired to mod my repeater, it was a struggle getting the parts. I only managed to get a replacement 2.4Ghz radio antenna.

Tested it again and the best I got was just over 1000m. Works pretty good upto 900m. Then I have to turn the PV2 to the side to get last few m out. This is with stock antenna on camera only mod on the repeater.

What do you think?
