Seems like an intriguing part of the world. I never see much from Newfoundland, so it is a mystery to me. Is there plenty of good seafood. Are you able to take videos of the coastline?

Yes lots of seafood and sure you can fly along coastline in many places here.
Well, I have a big decision to make. In a 2 weeks I have some time to take a trip. Do I go to Newfoundland or Florida? I never seen your part of the world. I like seafood. My wife might get upset since her aging parents, our daughter, 3 grandchildren and a whole lot of family is in Florida. My daughter with disabilities was wanting to see Mickey Mouse. I'm sure they would all get over it in time. To think of it , I can't get authorized to fly my P4 in Canada. Florida here I come. LOL

Yes I am sure your kids would rather Florida. But if you ever get a chance to come here to Newfoundland, especially in July, August or September when our weather is at its finest you would not be disappointed. Lots of seafood, whale watching, icebergs and loads of wildlife and scenery is spectacular. Cheers

I'm guessing with global warming, you are probably seeing more icebergs float by these days. Just curious... are you allowed to fly out to them for some closeup photos and video?

My family was station there back in 67-69, Goose Bay AFB, I had lots of fun up there.

It looks like it isn’t real and yet awesome. I don’t think I’ve seen a video of someone flying around an iceberg. I haven’t seen anyone flying around polar bears either. Lol
It has all the things I like. I’m a nature person.

Well it’s always been like some years are better than others for bergs so I suppose with climate change we will be seeing more. And yes nothing stopping anybody from flying out around bergs for photos and videos.

I’m picking up some pieces of berg in one photo for drinks. It cracks and pops when used for ice cubes as air is released from it. Some kids even sell bags of bergs bits in some communities for this purpose.

@Leonard, nice shots!

We are planning a trip out to Newfoundland this coming July. We are pulling our trailer out. Will be staying at Gros Morne and a combination of Provincial Parks and maybe a few hotels. So far we have 7 nights booked at Gros Morne but am still planning the rest out. We will likely be there for about two weeks before making our way back home. Bringing out my DSLRs and my P3S and Spark. I know I can’t fly in Gros Morne but hoping to find lots of other places to fly legally. Would love to see icebergs and do some whale watching in addition to enjoying seafood and the spectacular scenery.

After this trip, our family will have been to every province in Canada mostly camping in National and Provincial Parks. Can’t wait!

Chris

Will the berg be pure enough to consume?
Oh yes very pure. Purest water on earth so they say, 10,000 years old or older. I worked for a company about twenty years ago and we would go out in barge and harvest iceberg ice to make vodka and beer. Still beer and vodka being made here using iceberg ice. Going to see If I have any old photos from when I worked at it and will post if I do. Cheers

Here’s a few old photos from when i worked with company harvesting berg ice. You can see the clam on berg that we grabbed ice with. This particular berg rolled over when we bumped into with barge. It lifted the barge which was 180 feet long about 6 feet out of water as it rolled, was pretty scary at the time.

Wow you guys are going to have an awesome trip. You will have no problem to find places to fly your drone. Hopefully we will have a good year for icebergs and as for whales there are usually loads of them around. I live just outside St. John’s on Avalon Peninsula. If you get over this way Petty Harbour, Bay Bulls and Witless Bay are some communites you should visit. Cheers

If anyone is planning a trip to Newfoundland, I would suggest waiting till summer... What Leonard is failing to mention, most of Newfoundland is still digging out from 30 foot high snow drifts LOL

Thanks for the tips and for posting all the photos. We are hoping to get over around July 6ish, that way we will have some time to explore before heading to Gros Morne. Any scenic Provincial parks you would recommend. When I was a kid we stayed at Blow Me Down and our Tent trailer just about got blown down!
