Which firmware ?

Hi I have just bought an Advanced and after endless problems with my Standard I am very cautious with FW upgrades
I have GO app 2.8.3 ,1.6 on the RC and FW 1.5.3 .Everything seems to work well but 1.5 has a very bad reputation .There seems to be so many FW upgrade horror stories and I know once you move toward you can only make one step back.
I also read some where that the older FW isn't compatible with the newer app and RC FW
Also the colour in the footage from the Advanced seems a bit washed out compared to the Standard (I still have to learn more about camera settings)
So which FW do I upload ?

There's a theory that if something goes badly, ten people get told about it, and if it goes well no-one is told about it, so you hear all the disaster stories. I've not had any trouble, impatience and not following instructions seems to be the main issue with FW updates, there are of course exceptions to this, but as a sweeping generalisation, I'm sure the vast majority go well.. I'd say the latest, always..
