I use a Mac Pro eight core with 14 gig of RAM. I think I bought it around 2010. I upgraded the video card with a better GPU etc. My editor of choice is premiere cc. Photoshop and light room for stills. I edited a couple of projects in resolve 11, but the audio limitations in that version made the experience painful.
I understand these issues are corrected in version 12. I have not installed it since it is still in open beta. I am a huge fan of resolve as my color correction tool of choice.
Da Vinci resolve is free if you're not aware of it. The light version that is free is only lacking the 3-D video features and noise reduction. It's also the defacto standard in Hollywood for color correction for projects of all sizes. Not bad for free software.
I used Adobe Premiere Elements 13 (and Photoshop) they have pretty much everything it's big brothers have (minus the 5.1 export and hardware encoding) and it eats my 2K video like nothing
