The perfect compass, IMU calibration...

Actually DJI do not say that ...

What they say is : Always calibrate the compass in every new flight location.

Also they say on same page (page 41 of the manual) : DO NOT calibrate your compass where there is any possibility of strong magnetic interference .... etc.

I would suggest qualifying that statement about new location .... when of significant distance from previous calibration location.... and I am talking miles not m's !!

The thing is it may not cause an issue physically ever. But it will always be In the back of your mind what if etc and that's not fun for anyone.

Also if something else went wrong with the bird causing it to be damaged and you managed to get it to DJI there's no reason for them to say well you've had these warnings forever and you never did anything about them.

yep, those error msgs sure take the enjoyment out of the hobby. not much fun when you're always worried that your expensive toy may fly off into the sunset, never to be seen again or worse.

I have not had the problem with the message you mention come up, but when I cal. my compass I make sure there is no metal around the drone.

Ok my reason for asking did it stop flying is because when I had my warning - I could not fly. It all refused to arm and take off.
There are warnings and cut-offs and I agree its not nice to have warnings keep popping up.

My first action after trying different location - would be to try roll-bsck FW - which given DJI latest will probably fail. That's OK - that's not the aim of the exercise. I would then take a fresh copy of the FW you had before and reinstall .... hoping that this clears any bug that may have been there.

If that doesn't do it - then ????

DJI service ?

Maybe time to replace the compass sensor ?

So recived a email from DJI this morning saying it's funny really.

"Greeting, welcome to DJI tech support!
After checking your pic the mod value of your compass seems normal (1000-2000) and if you have already tested it for several times in different area. We would like to provide you a repair service for further investigation.
Please feel free to contact us should you have any problem."

Now why don't they include any details on how to send it lol. Very weird is DJI support.

So anyways I'm kind of left with a dilemma.

1. Don't want to send my remote away because I've dbs mod done to it.

2. Read numerous times I will probably just get s different unit back. Some guy had sand in his replacement lol.

3. Maybe I should continue to try things and stick with it as at the moment the warning is only annoying ?

Any input would be great for me??

It really is a tough call ....

Your mods have nothing to do with Compass or IMU warnings. The warnings are pure AC based and your mods purely RC based.

I would ask DJI Support if you can send just the AC and leave RC at home ? That way they get only a standard out of box AC ...

But question is .... what to do ?

Me - I am one who rarely calls on Warranty's having had too many arguments with 'Big Brother' companys who try to stamp you down ... so I would try all sorts of roll-back on FW etc. to see if I could solve it. But that's me.
If you tried my idea of roll-back then re-install ... how would that affect warranty ?

Yeah I'm kind of leaning towards just leaving it. With so many people having this issue I think eventually it will be fixed via firmware.

I wish I knew exactly what the warning meant as it could cover an array of things getting interference.

No not tried rolling back firmware. TBH I work 6 days a week and don't get a lot of time to play.

I would maybe be interested in re-installing the latest version however. But I don't know where to get it or how to do it?

^ That. That's my advice right there.

Jeff

would be interested to hear if any android users are having this issue, would help rest my mind, also want someone who is experiencing this issue on ios to see if they can get there hands on a android phone and see if that stops it? I cant get my hands on a second device which is not ios.

Just contacted a drone repair specialist in the U.K, the drone doctor and they said that the warning is created when the phantom detects electromagnetic interference caused by wi-fi, power lines, both above and below the ground, radio towers etc,

he said there is no known fix and that for the most part he said I shouldn't worry about it, however if the interference gets too bad the the failsafe wil be activated, (rth I guess) which is kinda good.

So I think ill carry on flying, just keeping an eye on it. Maybe some phantoms are more sensitive than others, which could actually be a good thing..

But none of that answers the question of why this all seemed to happen so suddenly, for so many people.

As I mentioned in my original post, I was flying in the same place, same weather, same truck, same clothes, probably even had the same breakfast... fine one week, non-stop the next.

And some are saying it's happening in wide open areas, fields, etc...

In any case, mine seems to have gotten better, maybe others will too.

I have an old Android device at home... if it's compatible with Go, I'll try it. My kid also has an old Sony phone... I'll see what I can do for testing!

Great, the test would be really helpful, thanks Jeff.

As for why it started ??? lol, mines been there since day one of my 1st flight, never got worse, never got better?

Possible update on either app or firmware made something more sensitive.

I think if you could test another device would prove 90% ish either way that it is a software problem, and again mostly ( im tempted to say completely) only affects ios.

My shout ! :)

Sounds good ... I will update on travel plans once finalised ....

I may even drive over with my 'Flying Van' ... I have a Renault Master van that I load up with models ... so maybe a session at Hatchet Pond ... introduce you to another form of RC as well ??

Daz ... basically his answer is what is said on many threads as well ... we all reasonably know what intereference for Compass is ... but why so many people have problem with it now.

I will repeat though - Unless the app you use is evaluating the IMU / Compass data in telemetry and chooses to issue warning or the warning is prompted by AC is not fully answered by DJI or anyone. I have always associated the warning to be generated by the AC and App just gets triggered to display warning.
But maybe the App is reading the numbers from telemetry and decides to warn ?

What about trying Litchi instead ? Just keep Go for changing settings that Litchi cannot do such as calibrations etc. But fly with Litchi ?
