Sport or P mode for distance

Did some prairie cruisin' this weekend and made it out about 1.6 miles before the RTH kicked in due to the low battery setting. Daughter was on sport mode most of the time. If we are shooting for further distance, would it make sense to stay in P mode instead? Take longer to get there, but less juice used?

Love the speed though. One afternoon the wind came up while we were flying, and she got going 60 mph with the wind. What a blast!!
 
Myself and other long rangers find that in s mode at about 30mph is the best distance to battery power. You will get 40,000+ feet total distance in about 17 to 20 minutes and land at about 20% battery. All this is relative to wind and the way you fly. Slowly gain flight altitude as your cruising then maintain, and coming back make a slow descent as your coming home.
