one has a gimbal ( http://www.dji.com/product/zenmuse-h3-2d-gimbal/ ), the other does not.
You will need a gopro to use the gimbal and the gimbal is only if you desire stable video footage (which most people do). If you have never purchased a gimbal before or used one, I would get the $879 package. That same gimbal was $699 a few months ago. (granted it is the scaled down version to a degree because the "brain" is now incorporated into the "brain" of the phantom. but you are still getting the great gimbal)
