P4P with iPad mini 4

I am about ready to pull the trigger and get a p4p and have an iPad mini 4 to use with it. My question is will the iPad mini 4 with an otter box defender case fit onto the remote control or will I need an expander? If I need an expander which one do you recommend? I see some on Amazon but some reviews say they work with the case and some say they will not work with the case.

My iPad Air fits nicely into my p4p controller with not enough space for anything bigger. Maybe look at the outside dimensions for that case and compare the sizes to an iPad Air dimensions?
