With the gimbal off what is the link light doing on the phantom when you turn it and the TX on?

the light is red. until i try to link then it just blinks red non stop

At this point I doubt your going to get the app to do a take off. If you get green on both phantom and RC, use the sticks, if you haven't leave the props off for now.

Neither way will connect so why do I need to have a gimbal to fly the drone?
