Optimal speed for distance?

Has anyone determined the optimal speed to fly distance? Sport mode gets out quick but apparently battery life suffers and I am having to turn around before the signal weakens. Also it is tempting to use sport mode to return quickly when battery is getting low but that's probably not the best strategy.

I've used the advice of long distance flyers here and fly 30-32 mph. Just flew 20,000 stock one way and landed with over 40,000 ft completely stock. The home point on the battery indicator moved much slower than in sport mode.
