Newbie P2 v1 Controller Question

I've read in the users manual when the P2 battery drops below a certain level the unit beeps an alert. Does the version 1 controller have the same feature or is the only a version 2 feature? The reason I ask is my controller will beep 3 times when I turn it on, but have not had it beep at any other time.
