I have a P3A and I'm afraid to descend straight down at full stick input as I'm not sure if it will shut the motors off like it does on the ground. Need clarification please.

You are quite safe. It will only shut down when landed and there are numerous posts on this forum that confirm this.
I myself have done it and it is fine.

Landed many a time by going full throttle descend on the left stick. (obviously going gentle when landing, of course!) Don't be worried about it shutting off and have confidence in your bird. Unless you do CSC there's nothing to worry about.

Like many others I'd really recommend handcatching as opposed to landing it on the ground. (dirt being flicked up, possible uneven ground/might tip over etc.)
