Well, I went to my flying area near my home where there is a small lake. I wanted to try some FPV flying. That went well though the video cut out and froze a couple of times. I was flying about 15' altitude most of the time.
After reading some posts here about top speed I thought I would try some speed tests. We had no wind so my first test was around 35MPH. I decided to try the same pass in ATTI mode. A pass along the shore. I took off and glanced at my phone video. When I looked up the Phantom was heading into the water. Apparently in ATTI mode it doesn't hold altitude! SPLASH!!
I ran to where it hit about 6' from shore. Emptied my pockets and went in. Couldn't see a thing! Felt around but nothing. I learned that at about 6 to 8' the bottom falls out on this lake. I was up to my neck trying to feel something. I went home and got a garden rack. With rake in hand I did a grid search. Low and behold, I found it. Camera was missing but the Phantom was intact.
I have completely diss ambled it, rinsed it, and dried it. It now sits opened under a fan. I won't try to power it up until tomorrow. It was somewhat of a miracle I found this thing. Still...the camera. So I'm trying to decide if I will go back in the morning with rake in hand and try to recover the camera. It is a muddy MESS there. But, the camera is $500.00!
I'm wondering how much chance it can be saved? It just unplugged itself when it hit the water and the rubber vibration things just popped out. No damage really. It also has my 23GB Sd card.
All in all I don't feel too bad. Lesson learned I guess.
