First time Quad buyer so I thought I would start off with the 1.1.1 and attach my Gopro. I don't see myself getting into the FPV functionality. I understand the benefits of a gimbal for pitch and roll and keeping the camera steady, but I don't understand why I would control the angle of the camera from the ground since I would be basically guessing what I am shooting.

Isn't there a gimbal that relies on gravity to keep the camera steady and the angle of the camera manually set before takeoff? What am I missing?

Thanks.

Well, you've explained already one of the benefits of FPV.

A gimbal that simply hung passively would perhaps be a little better than a camera mounted rigidly to the body. However, a powered gimbal just works much better.

If you don't have FPV, you probably would just set the camera angle before takeoff. The gimbal will still maintain camera level regardless of how you bank the craft when flying.
