Getting Started and doubt to photograph from the air

I just received my kit purchased Phanton 2 http://bit.ly/1pVpA6a from http://www.atlantahobby.com . but doing the first tests do not understand how to control the shot with the gopro camera photographs.
I doubt if I bought the right FPV kit..!
I see several post talking about the iOS mini, and I doubt if it is for that function, I have to buy it?

Just set the Gopro to record before you take off. Then you can use VLC media player to play back the video and take snapshots whenever you like.

Not all GoPros can do this and the ones that can will limit the photo size to the currently selected video size.

Yes you have to have the black to take simultaneous. The silver won't do it.

But my 3+ will take 12mp in that mode which is the highest resolution right? Are the pics less clear when it's simultaneous? I've only had 5 flights and have only done simultaneous thus far so haven't had a chance to compare.
