Yea in the USA, to use any UAV over 250g, i.e. Any DJI bird, the operator must be registered with the FAA.

Oh ok. Thanks. Do they send you emails on alerts/activities in your area? I assuming they aren't watching you every time you go fly. It seems more like a precaution in the event something happens, they know who to contact, correct?

Registration is really not well received by the RC community at large. They don't really monitor your day to day activity or even your flights, it's just the rules. I think they really want to make sure you click through the common sense things about flight especially if this is a new hobby.
