I have the Phantom 1.1.1 and I have been slowly upgrading it. I have been looking into FPV setups for it but they all seem pretty expensive. I do already have a Gopro Hero 4 Black so I could use that as my camera if possible to reduce cost. I also don't mind using my phone (Note 4) as a display. Unless there are some goggles available for under $50. So I guess my question is... Is there a way to create a FPV setup with a Gopro Hero 4 Black and a Smartphone while keeping the cost low? What parts would I need, where to buy them, ect.

Thanks in advance guys!

i don't think so.

i think you are gonna spend a minimum of $300-400 for everything you need. if i am wrong, someone correct me. i am going to be into my FPV system for over $500 by the time it's done.

can't use the wifi on the gopro cause it can interfere with your controller. not to mention the range sucks !!!!

Yes you can use the go pro as an FPV camera. You will need a 5.8 ghz video transmitter, receiver and some small cables. You will also need a separate monitor. I do not think you can do it using your smart phone. Here is a basic kit http://www.readymaderc.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=4_318&products_id=2066

**** that is expensive! Almost as much as I payed for the drone itself! There are no cheaper options? Dang...

You could probably get the price down by picking and choosing different pieces parts. For example you get get a smaller display with a built in receiver like this http://www.readymaderc.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=11_22_228&products_id=3895 and a less powerful transmitter like this http://www.readymaderc.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=11_30_33&products_id=485 I actually have the smaller monitor with the built in receiver, it also has a recording DVR on it. It works well.

I like the looks of this much better than the $500 setup. I even saw a pair of styrofoam goggles for $30 http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__53706__Quanum_DIY_FPV_Goggle_Set_with_Monitor_KIT_.html. might grab those instead of the $70 monitor if you guys think they will work! Is it difficult to install the transmitter and receiver? And does the gopro cable just plug into the transmitter or does that require cutting and soldering? I am kind of new to electronics like this but I am sure I can figure it out with the right guidence.

there are a lot of options for less then your price rang, I've been looking into getting fpv for my go pro hero 4 as well and I've found something from boscamhttp://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=321807474126&globalID=EBAY-DE it is a monitor with a built in receiver so you only need a transmitter and a cable to connect to your go pro which is like 10 bucks http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=251916696830&globalID=EBAY-DE this includes the cable and is a pretty good option thinking of getting it myself

I will probably get the transmitter. Idk how much the reciever and screen are in $$$'s but $162 is gonna be a littlw too much. Im trying to do the whole setup for about 100

even if you can pull off a $100 FPV system, imho you will get what you pay for.

it will probably have interference problems and no range...

just my .02

Yeah but my thing is, I already have the gopro for my cam and Im sure I could find a small monitor for free. So they arent included in the price. Really all I need is the transmitter, receiver, and gopro 4 adapter cables right?

Reread What Airborne said.

What is considered "poor range" to you guys? I dont plan on flying it a mile away. But if poor range is like 100m then yeah, thats not what I want. Haha

Bro, let me save you a **** ton of work. I researched a lot into getting the best quality and most inexpensive FPV setup using my GoPro and P1.

From Hobbyking:

* #9425000001/28907 7 inch 800 x 480 TFT LCD FPV Monitor with LED Backlight Fieldview 777 = $79.99
* #015000123-0/49500 XT60 Male to 2 DC Jack Plug Connectors (1pc) = $3.60
* #58GHZ-RX-1/18649 SkyZone RC805 - 5.8Ghz 8 Channel AV Receiver = $18.95
* #544000002-0/65682 Skyzone TS58500 32CH 500mW Mini Video Transmitter = $36.96
* #T2200.3S.20/8932 Turnigy 2200mAh 3S 20C Lipo Pack = $9.99

From Amazon:

* BW® FPV 5.8GHz 5.8G Clover Mushroom Antenna TX/RX Set RP-SMA Female Plug(Straight inner hole) http://amzn.com/B00SY9F5AO

Monitor Mount (this mount is fantastic, shipping took about 7 days to get to me in CA.)

* Rave Aerial Video http://www.raveaerialvideo.com/product/dji-monitor-mount/

With everything above, you'll get about 1/4 mile range of decent video and almost 1/2 mile with pretty crummy video. Keep in mind this was in a public park in the middle of San Diego, so there was probably a lot of interference.

I upgraded my RX antenna to this one and now I get clear video all the way out until I trip my RC range limit and RTH, about 1/2 mile or a little more.

* 3.5 turn 5.8GHz Helical antenna Circular Polarization - Best for FPV - RP-SMA
http://www.ebay.com/itm/121441652460

*** The only other thing you'll need is a couple dollar balance port adapter to charge power your video TX from your on board phantom battery. I dropped by a local hobby shop and they had one for $3 and charged me another couple bucks to clean up the soldering.

Good luck.

This will work for the phantom 1 330D? I have a gopro 4 silver on it.

I got the quanum fpv setup in the mail right now. I just need to know what cable i need to buy for it to work with my gopro 4 black. The quanum bundle already comes with a camera but I would like to have the gopro option too since the cables seem pretty cheap. I also want it to be able to charge my gopro so I can lose the weight of the gopro battery. Thanks!
