Apple IPad won't play video

Downloaded some pics and videos to my iPad, pics did fine, but won't play videos, says Unsupported Video Format, is there a setting I need to change on camera or can you not play on iPad

Older iPads, even though they support the video formats, don't support resolutions above 1080p. I'm in the same boat, with an iPad Air.
