I have a Phantom 4 Pro that has been in storage for a long while (have been unwell for a long time) & am looking at updating the firmware, pretty sure the drone is running on 01.01.40 still and I have been looking at changing that up to 01.05.600 from what I have been looking through the forums.
Is that still working with the current version on DJI Go 4 etc or is there anything I need to keep in mind? Is it still worth running it on firmware like this or has this practice become obsolete? I am not trying to do anything I am not allowed to I just do not trust how companies like DJI change up the capabilities of a craft after you purchase it.
Any comments are welcome

Research the hell out of the firmware before you update. DJI is notorious for piggybacking flight limitations on top of updates.......plus, some firmware and DJIGo apps don't play well together......another trick DJI uses to control how and where you fly.

* I haven't updated my firmware in 8 years. Birds fly fine.

Thanks for the replies all, I'll have a look at things on that firmware version. Does that still work on the latest version of the app?
Thx

Was trying to ask if the 1.3.509 firmware still works with the latest DJI GO 4 app or if I have to use an older version of the app, ie do I be careful updating the app on my ipad

Hmmmmm...I can't say for sure 100%. I use Go4 v3.1.1, which was compatible with a 4 or 5 firmwares I was testing. I'm about 90% sure that all Go4 App versions are compatible with all or most of the firmwares. You won't know for sure until you try. Personally, I would install Go4 v3.1.1 on your iPad. I've been using that version with great success for years. Unfortunately, one has to jump through a few hoops to make iPads do what you want them to do.

Bar none, the best firmware for the Phantom 4 Pro is 1.3.509.

Not doubting your opinion, but wonder what issues you might have had with later versions. My P4P has a gimbal tilt/pitch issue (after the start-up dance it settles at about 15-20 degree down from horizontal and looks a little backwards when it should be looking straight down). Don't know if downgrading the firmware might be a solution, or if it's even possible to do with DJI Assistant 2.

More likely not. Have you tried the gimbal calibration?
Yes, several times but no change in the gimbal's behavior. I thought maybe the pitch motor was weak, allowing the gimbal to "sag", so I replaced the motor and saw no change. The C1 button causes the gimbal to snap back and forth 90-degrees as it should, except that it starts from the "sagging" position; hence it looks downward slightly (not horizontal) and a little aft (not straight down vertical). It's more of a nuisance than a really serious issue, but I'd like it to do what it's supposed to do.

Failing POST is a hardware issue. It's tempting to blame firmware, but it's been my experience that firmware doesn't fix a drone (camera/gimbal) that fails POST. That said, it can't hurt to try. Rolling back firmware has been covered extensively and multiple times in this forum.

Check with @Droneted
Firmware rollback won’t help. My guess would be the main board in the camera.
I've traded thoughts with DroneTed on this. He suggested I replace the pitch motor control board; so far I haven't been able to find one. You suggest the main board in the camera. Are you and DroneTed referring to the same part? If so, is there an official name for that part? (it would really be helpful to have an exploded diagram with part numbers, but they don't seem to exist)

It’s been a while since I’ve had one of these cameras apart, so I’m not sure how many or what boards are hiding in there. I’ll look tomorrow at the pieces I have. May be something in the pile that you could use.
