Weak Control Signal?

I have done the aluminum foil mod, and now I'm getting more satellites than ever before. I have boosted the FPV signal with V+ Booster, and I am getting a strong, consistent FPV signal at greater distances than before. My problem seems to be a weakness in the basic control signal.

Twice in the last week, I have been forced to RTH after a "control signal lost" warning. In both cases, my bird was less than 300 meters from home point. Admittedly, I was operating in residential neighborhoods with numerous Wi-Fi signals and deciduous trees in full foliage, but 300 meters seems like an awfully short distance for losing control signal. Should I consider a high-gain antenna mod?

Have you changed your controller from ce mode to fcc mode? When you turn on your controller does it beep once or twice?

Doesn't go through trees and buildings. Did you have the flat side of the antenna towards the craft ? When you turn your controller on you should hear to beeps.

The controller has always been in FCC mode. Presumably, that should get me out to 800 meters.

How close were the trees? Were the tops of the trees near the line of sight? I've flown over neighbourhoods and gotten 1.1km but with no trees. We need a bit more info or try a wide open space to check it out

The FAA and CE setting can be set in two places. The back of the controller, and the assistant software. The main thing is to get it set for 2 beeps when enabled. The vision has 2 antenna wires. One is inside right front corner leg, and is not that productive. The 2nd one is inside the left rear corner leg, and is the hot ticket for reception. Your reception flying away will be much better then when you turn around to return back. Your better option is to fly backwards for a couple hundred feet before turning around. Keep wires from other devices away from the left rear antenna wire. I always remove the top cover and re-route that antenna wire from being coiled around other wires inside. It will also allow the wire to be slightly longer which is a small bonus.

Should you decide to upgrade from the antenna wires to actual 5.8GHz antennas, do not do the upgrade unless you do both the mentioned wires at the same time. It's also important to upgrade the antenna on the transmitter at the same time. Just replacing one antenna at a time during upgrade will actually give you less performance then the stock setup. You can later consider upgrading the two 2.4GHz camera wires with antennas.

Btw, right now you will want to point the side of the antenna on transmitter towards the quad while flying. The SIDE and not the tip.

The following video is some footage I shot around the local college. The beginning will give context to my location. On the run from 1:12 to 1:48, I lost control signal at the end.

Ok first things first, thats some fine funky *** porno movie soundtrack youve got going on there, nice one haha!
Trees? You may as well be in a forest, yep they are quite high and id 99% say that was your problem as you were close to them and your line of sight woukd have been compromised. I bet if you send her up in a wide open space you'll get a vastly different result. Nothing to worry about here mate :)

Aw, hell, I've some 70s-style electronica scores that will make you swear that John Holmes is down there somewhere.
