In the channels section of the Go App you have the Transmission Slider, what should it be set to and what does it actually do??

Reduces the quality (bitrate) of the feed in order to increase range. It's personal preference.

Ok great. It has no bearing on the image quality being recorded just displayed on the screen?

Correct. It does not change what is recorded to the SD card on the bird.

BTW, quick question. Does it also change the quality of what comes out the HDMI port?

Quality at HDMI port definitely depend upon the quality of stream, bit rate. If you are a long distance flier, you have no choice but to select the lowest bit rate or keep it at auto.
