    Hi everybody,
I am going to Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia and Myanmar for a month on Monday.
I was hoping to fly a bit in Sapa and get some cool shots there. But I am a bit worried about potential bans in these countries. As I understand you can even serve jail time in Thailand for flying. Do you guys have any recommendations and what's your experience with airports in these countries? Is it possible to bring a DJI P2 into Thailand without it getting confiscated?

    Regards
    Travis

Hey travislacy, I kind of keep track of those countries. I believe there are bans on flying in Thailand and Phnom Penh. Not sure about the rest of Cambodia.

I'm bringing my Phantom to Vietnam and Laos next month.

Myanmar - I brought my Phantom to Myanmar last November and traveled with it into Yangon, Mandalay, Sittwe, and Bagan airports. My backpack was never scrutinized, but it was X-rayed every arrival and departure. There is a sign in the airport that states RC toys are forbidden.

Someone left a comment on my Youtube page a few months ago asking, "how did you bring the drone into the country? ours was taken on entry."

I plan on visiting Myanmar again in June, but I'm leaving my drone in Hanoi. I don't want to risk confiscation. I've written letters to the Ministry of Tourism and the Tourism Federation asking for permission, but so far I have not had any replies. I have a friend who is a military attache and will see if he can help me, but without written permission, I'm not going to risk it.

I specifically booked my trip to Myanmar this time as a roundtrip from Hanoi to Yangon and back, so I could leave my Phantom in Vietnam and pick it up for the rest of my expedition.

It's really unfortunate, because Myanmar is the most photogenic country I can think of. When they built those temples a thousand years ago, they clearly had the DJI Phantom in mind.

That's why DJI used Yangon and Bagan for the P3 promotional videos.

Welcome to the forum, travislacy. There's a lot of great info here.

Vietnam is a republic country so they are very strict. The views are excellent but you must careful with the polices. They don't talk law lol. So better treat them with respect and nicely when you pump into them. However, you can apply the form to request flight authorization.

    Here's the form:

Kaththoi where did You find that permit? I am in Hanoi right now and went with a translator to a Police Department and they did not know that a permit like that even exists.
I also emailed the Vietnamese Ministry of Defense and Vietnamese Civil Aviation Authority but never got anything back from them.
Can You provide a link possibly?
