The monastery of Santo Domingo de Silos is located in the Autonomous Community of Castile-León in the southeast of the province of Burgos in the municipality of the same name. Join us on an enchanting journey through this idyllic haven of peace and spirituality.

It is a Benedictine monastery whose origins date back to the 12th century, in honour of its Abbot Domingo, who died in 1073. Fifteen years after his death, a temple similar to that of San Pedro de Arlanza was built, which was replaced by the current neoclassical one (1751-1792).

It is one of the most important monuments in the history of Romanesque architecture, unique in Europe for the importance of the sculpture of its capitals, composed of decorative plant and animal elements, and the eight reliefs on the corner pillars, with biblical themes: the Ascension, the coming of the Holy Spirit, the burial and resurrection, the descent from the Cross, the Assumption of Mary and the Tree of Jesse.

The church, built using part of a 10th century Mozarabic temple, of which some remains remain, was replaced in the 18th century by the current neoclassical church.
