Remote control exposure button not working?

I read that you can push the button down to bring up more camera options but mine doesn't seem to come up. Is this a setting you have to make/change? I read you have to hold it down but for how long? The scroll portion works, just not the push button menu options. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks!
