hello all how many times does a person have to update the firmware on the phantom 3 standard, is it every time before you fly, or every week, or what does anyone else do, any advice is helpful, thanks

You don't have to update it at all if its not giving you any problems.

I strongly suggest that you read (several times) the downloadable manual which is available from here Phantom 3 Standard - Specs, FAQ, manual, video tutorials and DJI GO - DJI (if you haven't already) and also read and search (via magnifying glass, top right) a lot on this forum, which is a mine of very useful information.
